It was reported last month that Rams cornerback Fakhir Brown avoided a one-year suspension under the league’s substance abuse policy. Brown declined comment at the time.
But he’s talking now. At a minicamp that opened on Friday, Brown told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the suspension almost was imposed as a result of a diluted urine sample, which counts as a positive.
“That’s what it was — a ‘dilute,’” Brown said. “If we’re getting tested right before practice, I’m quite sure it’s going to be a dilute, because that’s all I do is drink water and Gatorade before practice. [But] I had to take the test right then.”
Brown still thinks that some type of penalty might be imposed. It’s unclear what that would be, since the policy seems to contemplate a one-year suspension for any violation occurring within two years after a four-game suspension. Brown was suspended for the first four games of the 2007 campaign.
It’s the second one-year suspension that has been overturned by the league in less than a year; in 2007, Broncos running back Travis Henry managed to avoid a one-year hiatus, even after he surely angered the league by filing a lawsuit aimed at blocking the suspension.

This cracks me up!! A diluted urine sample is not one where the system is flushed with water or gatorade, but rather one that has had a foreign substance added to it before, during or after the sample was taken. Drinking plenty of water is actually encouraged, because you can’t drown out the amount of illegal substances in your peepee that way….only by running it under the sink afterward….so I call BS on this one, NFL….instead you need to go ahead and Fakhim!

I dunno but we need him pretty badly. We have Tye Hill and thats about it at corner. We almost have to go corner with our first pick in the draft next year unless Wade breaks out.

beninaz - Actually, you can dilute the amount of illegal substance in your urine by drinking plenty of fluids. For marijuana, they test for the byproducts created as your body metabolizes it. If you empty your bladder and then drink plenty of liquids, your body will not have time to metabolize new byproducts (marijuana and natural) so their concentration in your urine will be lower. This is why when they test the sample, they look at the levels of creatinine and other naturally occurring byproducts. If these levels are too low, the test is considered too diluted to effectively determine if any illegal substances are there.
