A league source tells us that the Green Bay Packers are planning to release receiver Koren Robinson. The move could come as soon as today.
Per the source, the Packers hope to go younger at the position. They recently added Jordy Nelson in the 2008 draft, and the roster already features young players like Greg Jennings and James Jones.
Per the source, the team initially gave Robinson an opportunity to line up a trade, but other teams apparently have opted to wait for him to be cut.
Robinson is signed through 2008, at a base salary of $730,000.

This is unfortunate, but the writing was on the wall. Nelson should be able to do anything and everything Koren did, without the age, baggage and injury history.

Koren Robinson…drafted by the Hawks with one of Seattle’s 2 first rounders graciously served up by Jerry Jones in the famed Joey Galloway trade.
The other pick…Shaun Alexander.

All I have to say is that Koren is an exceptional tallent. Who has a love for the game. Unfortunatly his demons have followed him through his career. I know that everyone has demons. Some can cope with them, others leave theirs behind. Korens are destroying his career and the taking away his options to play the game he loves. I hope the best for him and his family. Hope he lands with a team that will give him the opportunity to contribute. He is great on special teams. I think he is over looked as a receiver. He is physical with good hands. Im not sure what his 40 is but I know he can create seperation on the field.

This guy is like that girlfriend you’ve had off and on for a few years and whenever there’s nobody better around, it seems like a good option. Then you remember why you got rid of them in the first place.

I don’t see him ever amounting to anything. Although I think he has cleaned up his personal life, his knees are absolutely shot, and he can’t run anymore. There was no sign of any separation after any of his catches last year, and he certainly didn’t provide any kind of boost in the kick return game. Jordy Nelson should be a huge step up.

Koreen’s been a model Citizen while in Green Bay and will quickly be picked up. The Packers only make to move because they are loaded (Driver, Jennings, Jones (3rd round pick last year), Nelson (2nd round pick this year), and Ruvell Martin who is an above average #5, and would rather have the young guys get playing time behind Driver and Jennings to speed up their development. Koreen can be a #2 reciever on most teams but would have been a 3-4-5 guy in Green Bay. I can only hope he stays out of trouble where ever he goes.

I think he would be a alright #3 or # 4 for most teams, but his is going to have some downtime with the knees.. but he has been a “model” citizen in Green Bay and I wish him nothing but the best of luck if this little nugget should come to reality.
Still to me, it would make sense to keep him through part of Preseason… then deal him for whatever you can get to a needy team.. then again.. risk injury. Probably won’t get much in return so.. again good luck to Koren and family.
