I don't think Roy is going anywhere. The Lions front office wants to negotiate a deal. They want Roy long term, IMO. The problem with extending Roy's deal NOW is the teams salary cap situation. They will have a good amount of dead cap space comming after this season, and presumably will try to lock him up then. If they can't, he'll be franchised.

Either way... He'll be a Lion this season and AT LEAST next season... IMO.

the lions went 9-7 the year before millen showed up. they werent in that bad a shape, altho it is true they hadnt won a championship since 57.

they were one paul edinger kick away from ot and a chance to go 10-6 AND go to the playoffs.

that was the year bobby ross quit... at 5-4. gary moeller, who they probably should have kept, got them to 9-7.

What are the Lions doing with Williams? If they want to keep him they should be in contract negotiations with his agent. If they want to trade him it would be in their best interest to do it now, not after this season. The Lions are going to pass a lot less with Martz gone, and Williams' stats will go down, and so will his trade value. They are going to suck this year anyway, so they might as well trade him now.

Oh, by the way, the Eagles will take him.

Matt Millen should run for political office who is worse him or Isaiah Thomas as far as running a sports franchise into the ground? As they say the Detroit Lions have been rebuilding since 1949... Winning is everything everywhere but here, Detroit Lions as Champions? Not in this Millen-nium!

Further continuing what G-man said, and they aren't going to do that for Lito. If they were, they'd just sign RW to a long term contract (which they probably can't because then they'd have half their cap tied up in Calvin and Roy).

It sucks to see him stuck in limbo like this, but it's refreshing to see a WR respond to the situation with such honesty and distinct lack of ego. In reality, this probably makes him that much more valuable.

Bodden is a pretty good corner, but he's not a pro bowler. Kelly is over 30 yrs old and is a 4th corner at best. Lito would be the best cb on that team. The Lions were at the bottom of the league pass defense. They need a corner, even w/ a big contract. How would you be a moron to trade for a 2 time pro bowler that is 27 yrs old? It's a need that has to be filled.

I would not be thinking about trading this guy either. They still need some help on defense, and I don't know if they got a RT yet, but Millen has not been that bad. The Loins were in bad shape when he took over. Some of his draft picks did not work out, but he has made some pretty good ones too. They may actually get 10 wins this time. If the Clowns can do it, the Lions can. AZ may even have one 10 win season in them.

I'm puzzled as to where you guys are getting the "Millen is an idiot because he wants to trade Roy" stuff.

Nowhere in the article or interview does it say that Millen wanted to trade Williams. Marinelli and Millen are on record well before the draft saying that Williams wasn't going to be traded.

Millen may be incredibly inept at being an NFL G.M., but let's not start putting words in his mouth.

MikeWatty, the Lions aren't going to make a trade for a CB this offseason. They already picked up Leigh Bodden in the trade from Cleveland and Brian Kelly in free agency.

Besides, Sheppard wants a humongous new contract. Anybody who trades for this guy right now without an emergency situation at the CB position is a card-carrying moron.

How in the hell does Matt Millen keep his job? Seriously, what dirt can he possibly have on the Ford family. They have a very good wide reciever who is a threat that defenses have to account for, and the Lions want to trade him. Then there is no talk of a long term contract. This team doesn't make sense. Maybe after drafting so many recievers, Millen is confused. Maybe he thinks we're talking about Mike Williams and not Roy. Who knows?

Only the Detroit Lions could spend first round pick after first round pick on receivers, finally get one worth a damn, and then start up speculation about trading him.

What are they going to trade him for? More picks? These guys are clowns.

The Lions need to start contract talks with Williams ASAP. He's the best player on their team since Barry Sanders left.

Millen, please don't let this guy walk in free agency.

Eagles need to pull the trigger and package Lito and their 2nd 1st rd pick next year to get this guy. The Lions have a need at CB and who couln't use another 1st rd pick? The Eagles cannot make it work with all three CB's and getting Williams would be worth trading out of the 1st rd again.
