as for signals, if a team doesn't change their signals at halftime of every game, they should be contracted, because they're not trying to win. That's the only sin in the game. wristbands and paper and highlighters don't take much of the hundred million dollar budget they have each year.

I think it's very unfortunate that a SENATOR, whose salary I pay, is refusing to do his job and instead whining about football, promoting his book, and carrying water for comcast. Arlen Specter is worthless.

As for "cheating," people should read Stephen Potter's book Gamesmanship and look into the history of the NFL instead of just being fans of the other 31 teams. The only cheating in the NFL is steroids. All the rest is fun and games. Just like the Titans covering their field in sand when the Colts came to town last year. I didn't see them getting fined or robbed of draft picks. Then again, they haven't won three Super Bowls this decade. Holy double standard, what a surprise!

To all those upset because people are calling the Patriots cheaters... I have to agree with you!

The Patriots are not Cheaters.

They are out and out common THIEVES!

No different really than a Chicom front company paying spy's to infiltrate and steal intellectual property from a rival US firm.

In this instance the spy went a little squirrelly, started asking uncomfortable questions of people way higher on the ladder than he should be talking too... made the front office worry, so they canned him and hired a new spy to continue steal other teams signals.

Ted Johnson confirmed the players were in on it shortly after he retired in 2005:

"Every now and then I'd get a sheet, one hour before the game, with a list of audibles for our opponent," Johnson said in November 2005. "I don't know how, but they just showed up."

So what you have here from the video support staff... to the players... to the coaches... to the front office... and heck all the way up to Robert Craft is COMMON THIEVES.

Pats fans are so cute. They'll do anything to try and paint Walsh as some lone lunatic who acted on his own (even though the San Diego tape, for one, was clearly the doing of someone else)... they'll fall back on the ol' "hater" thing to paint anyone who comments on the subject as wrong, too. Why, they'll even try and smear the good ol' USA if that helps distract attention away from the scandal too. Gee you Pats funs are entertaining!

Somebody should thank the patriots for keeping this guy busy chasing this story. It's scary to think what kind of chaos he could cause if he was actually acting like a senator.

I've now come to the conclusion that there are alot of really stupid people on this website. In particular the ones who have nothing to do but scream about the Pats being cheaters and about how they should all be banned, etc. despite the fact that they were caught and punished already. What you were all hoping for with Matt Walsh didn't come to fruition but you still feel the need to spew the hatred anyway, scream that there MUST be a conspiracy because you just can't deal with the fact that there might actually NOT be anything more to this, and anyone who defends the Patriots are automatically defending their actions. Obsessed? I think you'd better look at yourselves considering some of the things I've read here.

This much hatred for a SPORTS team isn't healthy. Seriously. Take a step back and get a grip.

"The NFL is OK. The USA is in bad shape. What is your job again?"

Being an advocate for his constituents and pushing their agendas. That's his *only* job.

It's amazing how far Pats fans will go to justify and minimize the Pats' cheating. I guess they're so starved for success they're willing to do anything to defend the little bit that their favorite team has experienced.

Meanwhile, the team that they still think is the best in the NFL hasn't won the Super Bowl in quite a while even with all of the cheating. Do you guys still have your "19-0" t-shirts on, homers?

as a life long steeler fan, i really don't care if the patriots cheated or continue to cheat. they will always have their defenders(fans), and the mark of cheater will always be hung around their neck like a big scarlett "C"(by non-fans, ie. everyone else). it's a mute point to argue. but for those of you who chose to come on here, a football site, and spew your hatred of our government and country, go get a f'ing life. or better yet, go back to your daily kos or huffington post websites. no one wants to hear you bitch and whine here.

Seriously, why is Spector even involved in this? I've worked in the Senate, he, like every other Senator, has a ridiculously busy schedule. He does not have the time to be wasting on this even if Comcast IS lobbying him hard to make life difficult for the NFL.

What a mess! Specter should stick to Congressional Agenda...While I pay 4$ a gal. for gas! How about addressing that! Islamic radical facist trying to kill all non-muslims... Alot of people I know don't have healthcare. The real estate market sucks! The stock market sucks.
Let's tie up some more resources beating a dead horse!
Let's face it! Arlen still hasn't recovered from the Warren report! Which will go down as " the perfect example of the Gov. power of investigation"! Inept, lacking facts and altogether a waste of time and money! It's not Specter's money so does he care that his efforts should be applied to solving actual problems that effect real people... The President get's shot in the head and the Gov. lockd down the investigation, refuses to get a real medical examiner "who has actually performed an autopsy". Put your trust in Specter and you're bound to be disappointed!

Hey Arlen,

The NFL is OK. The USA is in bad shape. What is your job again?
Put your shrively, old, woodrow you've got for the Pats back into your britches and try to do something worthwhile.

Even though this thought might be wrong or inappropriate, I keep thinking that maybe Matt Walsh has or had the St. Louis Rams walk-through tape, but something was worked out behind the scenes -- or he just destroyed it himself. I don't know. Something is fishy. Can something like that just be made up and come out of thin air and get in The Boston Herald? Well, the answer can be yes. But the answer can be no, too. Things seem suspicious, and the NFL CLEARLY has an agenda not to be transparent.

They dumbly and selfishly and ignorantly destroyed alllll the evidence from before, then made up why they did so, etc etc. I'm curious as to what the TRUTH is. I am not one to take credit away from the New England Patriots' impressive and deserved dynasty.

But I want the truth, just like everybody else.

Can I just remind people that the Boston Herald is owned and run by a New York company that runs several other NY based papers.

Also where are people getting this idea that Kraft is friends with Goodell? Because they are both rich?

There are better things to do with your life than hate sports celebrities that you barely know for a "crime" you barely understand.

The night last fall on NBC NFL telecast

"One point Goodell made clear Sunday evening – he has told the
Patriots in no uncertain terms if additional facts come out that
reveal the Patriots cheating went beyond the stealing of signals;
Goodell reserved the right to access further punitive action against

Coverup now?

Of course NFL is covering it up. Just listen to Mortenson and Clayton spewing the NFL slant hat nothing new was revealed and nothing will be done. Same 2 ESPNers who said Michael Vick was a 1st time offender and nothing would happen to him.

Fact is months ago commissioner said Patriots turned EVERYTHING OVER and NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED and if he found out they were lying he'd come down hard on them. Well these 8 tapes were not turned in by them who said there was nothing else out there. I repeat Goodell has no business being in charge of this matter. All he's doing is making it llook like the coverup it obviously has now become. Arlen Spector didn't just fall off the turnip truck.

Why is Specter still doing this?
Comcast(his biggest supporter) is a monopoly in Massachusetts.
Verizon needs permission from everytown to offer their TV service as an alternative. Comcast has something like 1.5 million subscribers in Mass. Why do they want to make waves in this market, especially when their control of the market is being challenged? Pats fans in Mass should be running to their local legislators and demanding to let Verizon in if Specter keeps this up.
Read this story if you want to know what I am talking about:

Ii would like to propose a bill to censure Arlen Specter for three reasons. 1) His magic bullet theory is so stoooooo-pid! 2) He has a girl name. 3) He's making a fool out of himself in this case.

If it was Specter's beloved team's arch-rival, Dallas Cowboys, that lost the 2005 Super Bowl, he wouldn't care.

Foober, HOW am I overlooking that? All the stuff they had was destroyed, no? Which is why everyone is screaming about conspiracy, right?

The only games the Patriots had a hard time winning was the ones in weeks 14 and 15 that were played during cold rainstorms. And "average" teams don't tee off on Tom Brady at will, "average" teams don't win every single away game they play, and "average" teams don't beat the top two NFC teams in back to back weeks.

It's a never ending circle with you guys. The Pats cheated even though the tapes were destroyed. The tapes were destroyed as a conspiracy. Goodell punished the Pats because they cheated with tapes. If Goodell destroys the tapes, it's a conspiracy. If Goodell doesn't destroy the tapes, he is allowing NE to keep on "cheating" with them.

And everyone blathering about taking back Lombardi's, can I ask how you propose to do that? Will they recall all of the Super Bowl DVD's and clothing items? Will I have to turn over my 3X Super Bowl Champs liscence plate holder to the nearest police department? Does Goodell have a Howitzer fly him to Foxboro with armed guards to physically remove the trophies from 1 Patriot Place? Do we all have to get memory implants like Johnny Mnemonic so we think the Rams, Panthers, and Eagles are Super Bowl winners?

The league didn't even emphasize the videotaping thing until a couple of years ago when they issued the warning. As for Specter, no surprise by his reaction. Hey maybe they'll find out that the Patriots were taping special teams signals and Florio will call for a loss of a 7th round pick. :)

I really would like to see what the Pats haters would do if this same thing happened to the Cardinals.

Would you put asterisks on 2-14 seasons? Call for the lifetime suspension of all their mediocre-at-best head coaches?

C'mon now, that's just not any fun.

Foober,

So did the Cowboys and Packers. It was an average Giants team. One that had 3 of the most monumentally overachieving games in NFL history. The Pats peaked, I'll admit, in October. By December, they weren't blowing the roofs off of teams as they were , say, on October 21 against the Dolphins or October 28 against the Redskins (52-0 until the final minutes).

Hey guys, just caught some more rumors via the AP wire.

Apparently, Belichick invented AIDS and the Patriots are harboring Bin Laden in Gillette Stadium.

Wait, what's this?

Tom Brady is the anti-Christ?

Get a life, people. Remember you didn't care about the Pats in 1999 or 2000 (unless you were a Jets fan). Understand that your hate for the team is only a product of your own team's incompetence.

Jeremiah, every team is dirty...one of the things never mentioned is back in 06 when the Dolphins blanked the Pats they used a tape that showed Brady's vocal signals to the offensive line. And of course knew what the blocking schemes were. Jimmy Johnson admitted to cheating all throughout his career as a Cowboys coach. Why do you think Chucky Gruden covers up his face with the playchart when he's calling out plays over the radio? Because all teams cheat. It's a fact of the NFL, get over it.

And of course knew what the blocking schemes were. Jimmy Johnson admitted to cheating all throughout his career as a Cowboys coach. Why do you think Chucky Gruden covers up his face with the playchart when he’s calling out plays over the radio? Because all teams cheat. It’s a fact of the NFL, get over it.

this speaks volumes that Boston Herald would run a story without at least viewing the video tape first.

blackglass, your overlooking that the pats still had information of teams last year. And if you notice. As the year went on they had a harder time winning and then eventually lost to a just average new york team.

Foober, they handed out the maximum allowed fines and took away a first round draft pick. As I said, almost no form of punishment would satisfy your absurd definition of "scruples."

"The NFL is saying that the tapes do not show any “real signs” of cheating.

All the tapes show is the defensive sign followed by the play, which means the patriots got the questions along with the answers to the test. How that isn’t considered cheating I have no clue, it is pretty much taking away 50 percent of the pats opponents weapons. "

After the test, genius.
If they then use the test and answers to study by and the teacher uses the same test next time, maybe the teacher should have changed the test and not have been so lazy. And if the teacher does use another test then where is the advantage exactly?

Still a fricken dynasty, still gonna destroy your team, enjoy that HATERS.

Please God, Captain Fantastik, tell me how the Pats "cheated" every year. Do you honestly think they were using first half signals during the second half of games?

Also, if they did all of this cheating, why didn't they win all of the Super Bowls? Hell, why didn't they go 19-0 every year from 2000 to 2006? Also, if they were "cheating", and the defensive signals were the only reason the Pats won anything, then why didn't they just fall apart this past season? They had the most wins of the Belichick Dynasty in the year they didn't "cheat"...that doesn't make any sense, does it?

Please go crawl back under your rock.

Funny, Specter doesn't feel it is neccessary to investigate if the government is using torture as interrogation methods, but he is all over this. Granted whatever benefits his Eagles is a far greater importance to him than whether the US Government is violating the Geneva convention.

If another Senator who didn't threaten antitrust hearing to try to nulify a trade of TO so his Eagles could trade for him was leading this charge, it might have some credibility. It does seem a little suspicious of his motives since not one single other Senator or Congressman has publically backed Specter's efforts. At least with Steriods in baseball (another thing I feel the Senate really had no business to get involved with other than using the antitrust excuse to get photo-op time and I hate baseball), there was a decent number of Senators hot on this issue.

Dear Pats fans:

ummm yeah, we're all really jealous of you guys and your team. Gee I wish I could be a fan of team that's been proven with videotaped evidence to have cheated in every single year in which they accumulated "success" that led to a perception of dynasty (including an AFC Championship game). I wish I could be constantly on the defensive about the legitimacy of my team's "accomplishments". I wish my team could be mentioned in the same sentence as Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and the 1919 Black Sox. I wish I could be one of those NE fans knowing that i'll always be met with the subject of Spygate every time I try to talk about my team's "success". I wish I could be a member of the most hated fanbase on the planet rooting for the most despised team in the history of professional football. I wish my team had the biggest scumbag in the history of NFL coaching at the helm of my team.

Yeah guys...............we're all REAL jealous. LOL.

Patriots cheated blah blah blah. I get such a kick out of comments from inbreds like foober. You're either too stupid to truly understand the nuances of the game of football or you just enjoy projecting your stupidity onto message boards for all the world to see. Roger Goodell has no one to blame but himself. He let the New York media and all the Belichick haters pressure him into taking a minor rule violation and turning it into the NFL scandal of the century. Goodell should have stated firmly at the beginning that while the Patriots intentionally violated a rule it has no in game advantage and is used for future scouting. If you're stupid enough to believe that the Patriot's were able to decipher signals at halftime and knew exactly what plays were being called in the second halves of their football games then you're too dumb to be watching the extremely complex game of NFL football. I encourage people like foober to continue to take their anger out on these message boards, its better than getting drunk and beating your dog which is probably your only other option.

I realize the nfl is a money grubbing orgaization. But I had some hope they had some scruples.

If they did get a backbone and told the truth that the pats won their super bowls through illegal means then it would show me that they mean to try and have an honest game.

Otherwise if cheating is an accepted way of doing buisness in the nfl they should come out and say that as well. Some fans like the pats fans already think cheating is the only way to live.

I guess I have a higher standard than some on integrity and honesty.

Well thought out comment foober. I think what everyone fails to understand or comprehend is that Matt Walsh didn't necessarily ask for this attention. The point not mentioned very often is that Roger Goodell enjoys a friendship with Robert Kraft. Which leads me to believe that the NFL will do anything to cover this up - like they did when they destroyed the evidence.

Lastly, a rationale mind would acknowledge that if Matt Walsh was such a turncoat scumbag who just wanted vengeance, all of this would have come out immediately after the Pat's won their first Super Bowl or when Matt Walsh was first fired - whichever came first. The fact that it recently came out leads me to believe that Matt Walsh may be more innocent than the press is trying to insinuate.
