In response to the news that former Pats employee Matt Walsh has no tape of the Rams’ walk-through practice prior to Super Bowl XXXVI and that Walsh wasn’t the source for the February 2 Boston Herald story that the walk-through was taped, Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) isn’t ready to concede that Walsh isn’t in a position to help Specter advance his agenda (whatever it might be) against the Patriots.
“I think it is very unfortunate that the NFL has already started its ‘nothing new’ spin before watching the tapes or finding out what Mr. Matt Walsh has to say. Let’s see where the evidence leads.”
But the information comes from Walsh’s lawyer, Michael Levy, who presumably has watched the tapes. And, by all appearances, Levy and not the NFL leaked the story to the Times.
With that said, there continues to be some confusion about whether the Patriots disclosed to the league in September 2007 that the improper videotaping of opponents’ signals dated back to 2000. John Clayton of ESPN.com points out in a May 8 item that Commissioner Roger Goodell “didn’t reveal it until shortly before the Pro Bowl in February.” But ESPN’s Chris Mortensen supposedly reported in September that Pats coach Bill Belichick had admitted to conducting illegal videotaping all the way back to 2000.
Regardless of these nuances, there’s simply no way of knowing for sure whether the Pats did or didn’t make such an admission, because the NFL destroyed all tapes and notes that the Pats surrendered at the time.

this speaks volumes that Boston Herald would run a story without at least viewing the video tape first.

Jeremiah, every team is dirty…one of the things never mentioned is back in 06 when the Dolphins blanked the Pats they used a tape that showed Brady’s vocal signals to the offensive line. And of course knew what the blocking schemes were. Jimmy Johnson admitted to cheating all throughout his career as a Cowboys coach. Why do you think Chucky Gruden covers up his face with the playchart when he’s calling out plays over the radio? Because all teams cheat. It’s a fact of the NFL, get over it.

Hey guys, just caught some more rumors via the AP wire.
Apparently, Belichick invented AIDS and the Patriots are harboring Bin Laden in Gillette Stadium.
Wait, what’s this?
Tom Brady is the anti-Christ?
Get a life, people. Remember you didn’t care about the Pats in 1999 or 2000 (unless you were a Jets fan). Understand that your hate for the team is only a product of your own team’s incompetence.

Foober,
So did the Cowboys and Packers. It was an average Giants team. One that had 3 of the most monumentally overachieving games in NFL history. The Pats peaked, I’ll admit, in October. By December, they weren’t blowing the roofs off of teams as they were , say, on October 21 against the Dolphins or October 28 against the Redskins (52-0 until the final minutes).

I really would like to see what the Pats haters would do if this same thing happened to the Cardinals.
Would you put asterisks on 2-14 seasons? Call for the lifetime suspension of all their mediocre-at-best head coaches?
C’mon now, that’s just not any fun.

The league didn’t even emphasize the videotaping thing until a couple of years ago when they issued the warning. As for Specter, no surprise by his reaction. Hey maybe they’ll find out that the Patriots were taping special teams signals and Florio will call for a loss of a 7th round pick.

Foober, HOW am I overlooking that? All the stuff they had was destroyed, no? Which is why everyone is screaming about conspiracy, right?
The only games the Patriots had a hard time winning was the ones in weeks 14 and 15 that were played during cold rainstorms. And “average” teams don’t tee off on Tom Brady at will, “average” teams don’t win every single away game they play, and “average” teams don’t beat the top two NFC teams in back to back weeks.
It’s a never ending circle with you guys. The Pats cheated even though the tapes were destroyed. The tapes were destroyed as a conspiracy. Goodell punished the Pats because they cheated with tapes. If Goodell destroys the tapes, it’s a conspiracy. If Goodell doesn’t destroy the tapes, he is allowing NE to keep on “cheating” with them.
And everyone blathering about taking back Lombardi’s, can I ask how you propose to do that? Will they recall all of the Super Bowl DVD’s and clothing items? Will I have to turn over my 3X Super Bowl Champs liscence plate holder to the nearest police department? Does Goodell have a Howitzer fly him to Foxboro with armed guards to physically remove the trophies from 1 Patriot Place? Do we all have to get memory implants like Johnny Mnemonic so we think the Rams, Panthers, and Eagles are Super Bowl winners?

Ii would like to propose a bill to censure Arlen Specter for three reasons. 1) His magic bullet theory is so stoooooo-pid! 2) He has a girl name. 3) He’s making a fool out of himself in this case.
If it was Specter’s beloved team’s arch-rival, Dallas Cowboys, that lost the 2005 Super Bowl, he wouldn’t care.

Why is Specter still doing this?
Comcast(his biggest supporter) is a monopoly in Massachusetts.
Verizon needs permission from everytown to offer their TV service as an alternative. Comcast has something like 1.5 million subscribers in Mass. Why do they want to make waves in this market, especially when their control of the market is being challenged? Pats fans in Mass should be running to their local legislators and demanding to let Verizon in if Specter keeps this up.

Of course NFL is covering it up. Just listen to Mortenson and Clayton spewing the NFL slant hat nothing new was revealed and nothing will be done. Same 2 ESPNers who said Michael Vick was a 1st time offender and nothing would happen to him.
Fact is months ago commissioner said Patriots turned EVERYTHING OVER and NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED and if he found out they were lying he’d come down hard on them. Well these 8 tapes were not turned in by them who said there was nothing else out there. I repeat Goodell has no business being in charge of this matter. All he’s doing is making it llook like the coverup it obviously has now become. Arlen Spector didn’t just fall off the turnip truck.

The night last fall on NBC NFL telecast
“One point Goodell made clear Sunday evening – he has told the
Patriots in no uncertain terms if additional facts come out that
reveal the Patriots cheating went beyond the stealing of signals;
Goodell reserved the right to access further punitive action against
the Patriots.”
Coverup now?

Can I just remind people that the Boston Herald is owned and run by a New York company that runs several other NY based papers.
Also where are people getting this idea that Kraft is friends with Goodell? Because they are both rich?
There are better things to do with your life than hate sports celebrities that you barely know for a “crime” you barely understand.

Even though this thought might be wrong or inappropriate, I keep thinking that maybe Matt Walsh has or had the St. Louis Rams walk-through tape, but something was worked out behind the scenes — or he just destroyed it himself. I don’t know. Something is fishy. Can something like that just be made up and come out of thin air and get in The Boston Herald? Well, the answer can be yes. But the answer can be no, too. Things seem suspicious, and the NFL CLEARLY has an agenda not to be transparent.
They dumbly and selfishly and ignorantly destroyed alllll the evidence from before, then made up why they did so, etc etc. I’m curious as to what the TRUTH is. I am not one to take credit away from the New England Patriots’ impressive and deserved dynasty.
But I want the truth, just like everybody else.

What a mess! Specter should stick to Congressional Agenda…While I pay 4$ a gal. for gas! How about addressing that! Islamic radical facist trying to kill all non-muslims… Alot of people I know don’t have healthcare. The real estate market sucks! The stock market sucks.
Let’s tie up some more resources beating a dead horse!
Let’s face it! Arlen still hasn’t recovered from the Warren report! Which will go down as ” the perfect example of the Gov. power of investigation”! Inept, lacking facts and altogether a waste of time and money! It’s not Specter’s money so does he care that his efforts should be applied to solving actual problems that effect real people… The President get’s shot in the head and the Gov. lockd down the investigation, refuses to get a real medical examiner “who has actually performed an autopsy”. Put your trust in Specter and you’re bound to be disappointed!
