Remember, the Raiders didn't neccesarily need to cut Rhodes, they agreed to cut him, at his request, if they drafted McFadden. Granted, it seems to have worked out best for both sides to follow through; but I don't see that as being semantic.

Hikebowski, you are right. Cooley has some good points regardless of your feelings towards his member.

I still wish the NFL would go to the NBA style draft pay scale. That is the only good thing about the NBA. NFL rookies make far too much money. I loved Chris Cooley's piece.

The base salary this year is $295,000 for a rookie.

"Teams have to fit all their rookies — including undrafted free agents or supplemental draft picks — in the rookie pool. Rookies’ salaries also count toward each team’s overall salary cap of $116 million."

An important point--UDFA base salaries are NOT drawn from the rookie pool; only drafted rookies' base salaries count. Any amount above the base salary, for any rookie (drafted or not) counts, though.

What is the rookie minimum? The Browns and Colts have 360kish per player to get their rookies signed.

The next lowest per rookie is the Vikings at 410k/rookie.

The Raiders and Jets have 820k/rookie, but a steep drop to the Rams at 750k/rookie.

Despite having 2 first round picks the Chiefs are 8th on a per rookie basis at 685k.

I wonder who the Raiders will cut now...considering they needed to cut Rhodes to get under the cap for trading Fabian.
