What's just as alarming is the case with the Miami Dolphins quarterback situation... Chad Henne and John Beck are both represented by Justin Schulman.

The thought of a conflict of interest is really upsetting to me. I mean, just think about how some guy is going to get paid for playing a game and is only going to get paid 50 times as much as I do in a year instead of 60 times as much as I do in a year because his agent had a conflict of interest. It sure is going to make me lose a lot of sleep.

If the agents have no influence on when a player is drafted, then that is all the more reason for a rookie pay scale. If they have no influence, no use even getting the agents involved.

“The smart players are aware of it and voice it in our meetings. We frequently have veteran players looking for a new agent ask if we are going to be representing another player at the same position in free agency the next year. And we similarly have college players ask if we are recruiting other players at the same position for the next draft."

Is there any reason to believe that the majority of NFL players can't/won't follow suit if they deem the situation to be personally problematic for them? The conflict of interest topic is interesting to discuss, and clearly beloved by Florio. However, I have a hard time believing that grown men who are quite articulate when expressing salary/contract demands are completely helpless when it comes to looking out for their own interests as it pertains to selecting an agent.

I've been critical of this whole subject. I am starting to think I was wrong and it is something maybe I ought to pay closer attention to.

Even though your source alluded to the smart players asking the right questions about an agent's possible conflict of interest, I'd be more interested in hearing what players think about it.

Also, and I've wondered about this for a while now, why does Gene Upshaw really need an agent? To manage the flood of endorsement deals he has coming in? To negotiate the highest possible salary for Gene Upshaw to represent the player's interests? Who does the agent negotiate with? Gene Upshaw? Wouldn't the NFLPA want their president to be without an agent so there isn't any appearances that there might be a conflict of interest there? I'll stop asking those kind of questions now because I don't want Upshaw to visit me at home and break my neck.

Incestuous if you ask me... 'Show me the moneyyyyyyyyyyyy.' doesn't fly anymore. The NFL teams grade the pay structure for drafties wit a slight cost of doing business increase each year and that's all folks! That's just the way it is. Don't think for one moment that they are going to bend? Especially not when the veterans and the players association is chomping at the bits over how much mucho diniero/$$$ is being dolled out to the rooks... Agent Zero take note!
