Some Internet hack who somehow managed to get a part-time gig writing for a reputable web portal (I had a letter of reference from Howard Eskin) has taken a comprehensive look at the Marvin Harrison situation, breaking the case down as it relates to the potential problems that could arise for Harrison both in a court of law, and in the league office.

1. Why would he be charged with aggravated assault instead of attempted murder? You don’t shoot at someone with a .50 (or any gun, really) without trying to kill them. Is this just a legal loophole?
2. How is it illegal to give someone a gun? I’ve been given guns. I never heard of people being charged for that. If so, fathers in the south better watch out. Or is this just Pennsylvania stupidity?
3. This fake modesty in your writing is getting extremely old. But maybe some folks enjoy it.

To the cornpone Favre minion:
There is no “attempted murder” charge in Pa. . Aggravated Assault is the charge unless someone’s dead, then it’s either murder or manslaughter ( various gradings)
In Pa., if you OWN a gun and you give it to someone else and that gun is used in the commission of a crime, YOU are responsible just as much as the actor of the criminal act.
Stick to cows and cheese. You’ll do fine.

Mike, Mike, Mike. You don’t ’shoot’ a gun. You fire a gun. Shooting follows the act of firing.
You could shoot a gun out of the hand of an attacker, if you’re an expert marksman. Again, by firing your own weapon.
But I’m merely picking nits. Carry on.

I disagree with you Mike that Goodell won’t act before criminal charges are resolved. If memory serves me correctly, Chris Henry, Michael Vick, Pacman Jones, and Tank Johnson were all suspended before their criminal charges were resolved. Well technically, Vick was suppended by the Falcons until he pleaded guilty.
Goodell typically does his own investigation idependent of the criminal investigation and based on the evidence we know so far, he would be consistent with prior judgements to give him a two game suspension even if no charges are brought against him.
I have maintained that Harrison would retire before he would get a suspension, but he carries a big cap hit with a lot of dead money. Would the Colts try to recoupe cost if he retired as soon as this or next year under the circumstances? Does he have a morality clause in his deal? If not, does he have a better case vs. the Colts if they tried to recoupe the money if he was suspended in that circumstance if there is no morality clause?

I enjoyed your line about cornpone and cheese. Well played, sir.
However, as to the Favre’s minion line, I’d like to point out that I hate Brett Favre. He’s a cheater (see: Favre and Strahan rig the sack record) and he’s an attention whore who always threw INTs when his team needed him to just do his job. I have zero respect for the man, I just find it amusing that [almost] everyone loves him and I wanted a catchy name on here since Florio for some reason labels me as a “cheerleader”. Favre is football’s Roger Clemens, [probably?] without the roids. I don’t support him for president, just as you are presumably not actually Florio’s offspring.
But lest you hate me and try to engage me in a commenter battle, I appreciate the info you put in your reply. I’m a genius, but I know nothing about the legal process, other than it’s slightly less corrupt than David Stern and the NBA refs.

Harrison sounds like a “worse character” guy than T.O. and Moss put together right now. IMO thats saying quite a lot considering how quick “fans” are to diss Moss and T.O. (and CJ85 too) for things that are business related or just plain trivial.

A humble reply to the closet Favre worshipper,
If there is one thing I cannot stand is irresponsible slapnutz ( like yourself) and take the easy way out and associate the state AND its legal process WHEN THEY(now admittedly) HAVEN’T THE FIRST CLUE ON EITHER SUBJECT. Especially the stipulations regarding “straw” purchases of firearms.
Marvin’s in a pickle right now and there is no denying that. However, saying the state system is “stupid” when you post two equally stupid questions before that is a little redundant, don’t you think?
