On Tuesday, there were different opinions as to whether Seahawks receiver Bobby Engram is boycotting voluntary workouts because the 35-year-old receiver wants more money and/or years on a contract that expires after the 2008 season.
If there was any real doubt about Engram’s status, he shared his views with the team on Tuesday, by leaving a handwritten note for coach Mike Holmgren.
“I kind of enjoy that,” Holmgren said. “It means he graduated from college and he can type.”
Holmgren was kidding. (We know this because when he’s serious, he usually curses. A lot.)
“He’s been so good for us and he is an emotional player and the business side of this gets emotional at times,” Holmgren added, regarding Engram. “I’ve had other players do that before on the nonmandatory days. In that respect, that’s the one thing they can do, at least perceive they can do.”
Engram is due to earn a base salary of $1.7 million in 2008.

It must be the white hot market for 35 yr old WRs that is pushing Engram to lobby for a new deal.

jgd3rd - welcome to the nfl information channel. Engram was Seattle’s best WR last year, most consistent, always finding a way to get open and hardly ever making mistakes.
Yeah he is old, but why couldn’t Seattle just give him a raise this year? If players who can’t stay healthy (Deion Branch) are getting 2-3x the money that Engram has why can’t he get compensated?
I would figure that Seattle doesn’t want to invest a long term deal in a 35 year old, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t keep his base salary at 1.7m or even drop it to the veteran minimum and then give him a bonus that is $3 or $4 million.
It probably won’t happen because why would a team give more money to a guy who actually produces on the field. Of course this is all based on last year’s stats. In previous years Ingram would be the one hurt.
Hey Florio, can you dig up Engrams contract that he signed whenever? It must’ve been awhile ago, but I want to see his bonus money/total package vs. how many games he has played and started/done well in. I’ll do the legwork on the stats if you can find me a contract.
^^^^^^ Goes out to anyone that has knowledge of this contract, just post it in here and I’ll see what I can do.

I don’t think so… Holding Paul Allen up for ransom? Maybe if the guy was an entrepreneur and had a technology startup company in an incubator mode somewhere in the Pacific Northwest…? But an OLD 35 yr did I say OLD receiver…? Somewhere, I can see Boy Wonder Dan Snyder, who must be rubbing his hands in HOT pursuit of this has been.

Bobby Engram, a 35 year old slot receiver. The market is steaming for these types of players. Troy Brown plays a similar role and the teams are just knocking down doors to sign him.
