Running back Warrick Dunn is back in Tampa, after a five-year hiatus. And he’s already up to the same old stuff that he pulled during his first stint there.
He’s giving time and money to make the lives of less fortunate people better.
On Tuesday, three more single-parent families received assistance from Dunn in getting into a home of their own. In all, Dunn has helped 77 single-parent households makes down payments on fully-furnished homes.
He does it to honor his late mother, Betty Smothers, who was killed in 1993. “If anyone really knows me, and knows about my life, my mom was my best friend,” Dunn said. “She meant everything to me in this world. To be able to live out her legacy, I’m just really honored.”
(Editor’s note: We initially mentioned this item in a One-Liner on Wednesday afternoon. But because several members of PFT Planet commented that they’d like to see Dunn get more love on this site for his good works, we opted to make special mention of the item here. And as to anyone who thinks we don’t appreciate Dunn, also us to re-introduce you to the winner of the first PFT Joe Delaney Award.)

If I’m not mistaken, Dunn took an active role in the relief efforts after Hurricana Katrina. If memory serves me correctly, he donated a large amount of money personally and challenged every NFL player to donate $10,000.00 (again, working from memory here).
Point being, he is and always has been a class act, when he retires the NFL should give consideration to naming/renaming an award in his honor.

he leads by example and we all could take a few notes from him.
thanks Mr Dunn.
i think this is especially poignant how he honors his deceased mother
and mothers day is a few days away.
those of us who have lost our ‘best friend’ and those of you lucky enough to still have her around. let her know.
it will do both of you a world of good.

I agree with the Positive Point system mentioned. As I read this post, I started thinking about the need to showcase the good stories. there’s not enough coverage of the positive news. We need more of it.
I’ve been a Dunn fan since his FSU days. Little guy playing big… everyday.
