Better yet put Theismann & Patrick back together kind of a reunion so to speak!!! the only thing Joe did was explain the game in detail!!! too bad ESPN wants football for dummies with the b/s female comentating over the plays & Tony's stupid nonsense about nothing!!! this could be a good thing for NFLN!!!

Al Michaels would be great.

Do you believe in Miracles? YES

Of course, I'd rather hear another announcer say yes on air:

Marv Albert, the greatest announcer of all time.

Poor Mike Patrick's career will always be tainted b/c he had to work with Theismann and Maguire. In fact, he deserves a raise from ESPN for pain and suffering.

I like Michaels (Lord knows how much better his play-by-play of the Tyree catch in SB 42 would have been compared to Joe Buck), but I agree with a couple of you that stated he's overrated and bit tired.

Why not shoot for Costas? He used to do football for NBC in the late 80s/early 90s and does a very good job (for what it's worth) during the Olympics. He's always insightful and will not dumb down to the casual fan.

It's 2008, can we have intelligent play by play men for NFL broadcasts? Costas-Collingsworth would be tremendous.

BTW, I LOVE Pat Summerall, but was he really a candidate? Remember, he very ill for a long time.

I'm sure why the production value. Don't they use NFL Films? Can we confirm with the great Steve Sabol on this?

I like Michaels, but he tends to divert from the game once the score differential increases to talk about a player's pet for example. Man Gumbel was BAD!!! To tell you the truth, I felt bad for the guy, yes he was that bad.

Madden and Summerall together? that would be a three hour advertisement for the necessity to develop an alzheimer's medication.

they should put Michaels with Frank Caliendo. he could do a different character every quarter.

I don't get the NFL Network anymore, but unless they seriously upgrade the production values of their broadcasts, it wouldn't matter if they resurrected Howard Cosell to call the games.

The production values and graphics for the games produced by the NFLN looked like just a step above those you'd find for a highschool game you'd find on public access television.

Al Michaels turned one phrase into a career. He is one of the most overrated announcers (pay by play) in sports. Of course, that is perfect, since he is paired with John Madden - who lost his fastball too many years ago to remember.....

I just saw Al Michael's the other day in the Hawaii Five-0 rerun that he was in.

If you are interested, season 2 episode 42 over at the CBS website. You can watch it in all his glory. Walken is in that episode too.

I like watching the old show where the now famous were once not so famous.

Perhaps the strangest one I have seen is Jack Nicholson on the Andy Griffith Show.

As for Michaels going to NFLN? IMO, he is a bit overexposed. He does a great job, but I would rather see new people brought in.
