Cornerback Hank Poteat has bounced around the league like a rubber ball in a room with wooden floors and brick walls. On Tuesday, he bounced back to the Jets.
The return of Poteat was announced by the team on Tuesday.
Poteat, a former Pitt Panther, was drafted by the Steelers in 2000. Prior to joining the Jets, Poteat started only two games in six NFL seasons. In two years with the Jets, Poteat has started in 15 games.
In 2007, he appeared in every game, with nine starts. He also had two interceptions — the first two of his entire career.

Back when he played for the Steelers, we used to call him Hank “Just Got Beat” Poteat. I can’t believe he’s still in the league.

No, Poteat definately has a ring with the Pats. Not sure if he started, but I can guarantee you that he played in that game. Remember all their DB’s were injured so they had scrubs and Rodney Harrison.
Also, they Jet’s most likely covet him because they will steal anybody from the Patriots, good or bad!

all those free agents the jets sign are worthless if their biggest game breaker on offense is their third down back, and hank poteat is one of their starting corners.

He definately has a ring with the Patriots. Remember when all their DB’s but Harrison went down when they played the Eagles in the Superbowl? Poteat was definately in that mix.
Maybe that is why the Jets like him so much. They’ll steal anything having to do with NE, good or bad!

Poteat signed with the New England Patriots prior to the 2004-05 playoffs and played in all three of the Patriots’ playoff games en route to their victory in Super Bowl XXXIX. Poteat was released by the Patriots on August 29, 2006. Poteat was re-signed on September 27, 2006, after the Patriots placed Randall Gay on injured reserve. Poteat was released again by the Patriots on October 9, 2006 in order to clear a roster spot for Jabar Gaffney.

As a matter of fact Hank Poteat has played for the Jets in 06 (11 games) and 07 (16 games). Boy don’t you guys know your own team? He NEVER PLAYED IN THE SUPER BOWL! On the teams roster, yes. He was not activated for the super bowl.
For you jet fans, your season is shorter than New Englands so I’ll explain. You have a 53 man roster. Plus an 8 man practice squad that cannot be activated unless signed to a union contract. Only 48 of them are active on game day. That means 5 healthy players don’t dress every week.
Once again your thinking of Randell Gay. He started the super bowl vs Philly matched up against TO. You remeber Randell Gay. He’s the CB you tampered …err…spoke to while still under contract with New England. he is now with the New Orleans Saint.
You can easily find post season stats for Hank Poteat @ yahoo sports. NFL Players. Game log. Oh yeah in 06 playoff when we whipped your a** 37-16. He was on your team then too. Only Jet fans could rejoice resigning one of their own players who has 2 INT’s in his 7 year career. ENJOY. (Sorry Florio. I try to keep it mature but…damn jet fans..it’s like talkin to my kid brother.)

Bradybunch … the Jets didn’t tamper with Randall Gay, they tampered with Deion Branch and A$ante $amuel … Jeez, get your facts straight!
The Jets spoke to Gay while he was a tendered restricted free agent … bringing him in for a visit in 2007 … that’s actually allowed.
As far as Poteat, he brings depth to the roster, nothing more. He could start, because the Jets don’t have anyone better … quite an indictment on the #2 CB. All the same, keep an eye out for the guy the Jets drafted in the fourth round Dwight Lowery, not sure if he’ll settle at corner or safety, but he could be the second corner by season’s end.

Hmm. I wonder why all the other journeyman signings around the league don’t get this kind of attention on this website. Could it be because the nondescript player in question matriculated at Pitt? Nah, I’m sure that couldn’t be it.
Hey Florio, why didn’t you bother to mention that the 1st round draft pick & budding star holding down the other CB spot for the Jets also played at Pitt?
BTW, what’s up with that 1st round CB from WVU? What’s his name? Frogger Jones, is it? How’s his career goin’?
