The Giants are classy? But didn’t they just draft Mario Manningham

Yes, and last year they drafted Ahmad Bradshaw (another kid with issues). I would say that Bradshaw worked out well. Dallas isn't the only team with a player program, they just like to talk about it so much in the wake of the Pacman deal. The NYG WR has some great mentors for Mario, and keep in mind that Toomer went to Michigan as well. That will be a natural fit and I think Manningham will be fine. And if Manningham finds himself gravitating to strip clubs and shooting people in Vegas then Jerry Jones will be on the hiorn pronto to get him!

If one changes positions, and plays it well, he SHOULD be paid accordingly.

kidiesel is on the money. Diehl was getting paid like an average guard, not an above average left tackle. He's not like the washed up wide receiver or mediocre TE that have begged for more money on the Jets.

All that said, it's certainly time for the G-Men to lock up Snee before he hits the market in 2009.

To elaborate on what kidiesel posted, the deal is a clever and classy move on Reese's part. Diehl is the defacto LT so he should be paid like one, but he is also a stud guard. Chris Snee is in the last year of his contract and has already rebuffed the Giants' latest offer. Diehl's deal gives the organization to not have to overpay Snee. If Snee leaves, then Diehl will slide back into the inside and be paid accordingly. The Giants' might see their investment in Guy Whimper pay off and he could end up playing the outside.

sorry, but you could not be more incorrect about the ramifications of this move. What this is, (as Laverneus Coles would love) IS a team taking car of its own and rewarding players. Diehl moved to LT a premier position that makes top dollar and he was being paid like a G. THAT is why he got his new deal and as you pointed out (The contract contains an annual escalator clause that results in extra annual pay in the range of $750,000 to $1 million, if Diehl remains at left tackle.) So i dont think other players will hear this news and go running to JR. This a move by a classy organization that respects its player

Don't they still have to work out something with Eli who only has a year or two on his contract?
