The Chicago Bears announced today that they have released safety Adam Archuleta after one year with the team.
Last March the Bears traded their 2007 sixth-round draft pick to the Redskins in exchange for Archuleta, who had just finished a disappointing season in Washington. He played in 15 games for the Bears, starting 10. (The Redskins used the pick to draft quarterback Jordan Palmer.)
Archuleta had his best seasons with the Rams from 2001 to 2005, with Lovie Smith, now the Bears’ head coach, as his defensive coordinator. When Archuleta signed with Chicago, it looked like reuniting with Smith would make it the right fit.
But the Bears apparently felt that Archuleta was expendable because they like the other safeties on the roster, including Mike Brown, Brandon McGowan, Danieal Manning, Kevin Payne and rookie fourth-round draft choice Craig Steltz.
The 30-year-old Archuleta will now be an unrestricted free agent.

I didn’t even know who Adam Archuletta was until coming to this site and seeing all the ads.

Your only as good as your last game and in Chicago as well as Washington… Not impressive. Here today and gone tomorrow. Someone somewhere will pick him up for a song… Maybe he can resurrect his career?

He wasn’t expendable due to a roster full of safties. He was expendable because he proved he couldn’t run, tackle or defend a pass last year.
Truly, he made me long for the days of Mike Green (now with SEA) who at least tackled his guy after 10 yard receptions.

Good riddance….it was sad to see all the missed tackles. I know of at least two games that he cost us.

It was really time to let him go. The signing was a great move on paper when it happened…apparently we got fleeced by the Redskins, i would have rather have had the 6th rounder….

I had high hopes going into 2007 about Archuletta, and boy did he let me down.
He’s slow, doesn’t lay a heavy hit, doesn’t wrap up, and can’t cover. Actually, I’m not sure what he does do. I worried he wouldn’t be cut because of Lovie’s loyalty, but apparently someone’s gotten through to him.
Watch out Benson and Grossman. Your time isn’t guaranteed anymore.
