I know that Payton still wants to tote the rock 20 to 25 times a game to make his playaction more effective and Drew Brees more efficient. It won't hurt that it will take some wear and tear of his arm as well. I know enough about Payton’s philosophy to figure out that he won’t force a round peg into a square hole. Those guys came out the same year when both were highly touted as top ten picks but slipped far because of injury issues (the questions posed then seemed to be correct now). I think this inquiry into Shaun signals the Saints coming to the realization that Reggie Bush will never be an every down back. He is still dynamic, but more as a receiver like Steve Smith (CAR) or Wes Welker than a 15-20 carry guy. I wouldn't be surprised that the Saints keep McAllister, Alexander, Bush, Thomas, AND Stecker as backs and maybe keep less wideouts. After Colston, Patten, and Meachem, the rest of the wr corps is expendable. If all of this happens, and it's a real possibility, Bush will be counted as a wideout and handle all return duties. He will do kickoffs and punt returns. Give Deuce 10 carries and Alexander 8 and give Bush about 3 and Thomas 5 a game. As for Jeremy Shockey, I don't think he will be traded to New Orleans unless the Saints give up an offensive lineman like Jammal Brown or package a pick or player with Jonathan Stinchcomb. I think the reason why the Saints picked Carl Nicks was to place him at right guard, move Jahri Evans to left guard and make Jamar Nesbit compete with Jonathan Goodwin for center. I have a feeling the Saints will eventually cut Matt Lehr because the team doesn't want another Hollis Thomas situation from 2006. Zach Strief is a player on the cusp of starting and he can make Stinchcomb or Brown expendable. Remember, it's almost time for the Saints to re-sign Brown. They just gave Stinchcomb an extension.
