in detroit for the longest time, as in the 80s-90s, every night on the local news there was at least one lurid tale. one of note was a baby left in a box just off the curb... yes, in the road.

around y2k they just stopped. the reports, that is. not the killings etc. they sure havent stopped... after all, detroit is the murder capital of america again!

there are some "crimestoppers" reports and "most wanted" reports but on a daily basis, the media doesnt report what is going on. that's what the internet (and usually, blogs) is (are) for.

print media only offers the most basic information about crimes and descriptions of perps, at best. often less.

of course, detroiters can look up to their mayor for legal and moral guidance.

"And another thing … Why the heck does Marvin Harrison own not one, but two business in what is apparently a bad neighborhood in Philly? One of which is a bar that by all appearances appears to be a run down hole in the wall. And, equally important why does he hang out at these places?"

So you're saying that he should unequivocally abandon the neighborhood in which he was born and raised. It may sound simple in theory (or on a message board), but for a lot of people (people with a social-consciousness, a sense of loyalty, what have you) - it is not that simple in practice.

I think he has been interested in doing his part to revitalize his neighborhood - in that sense, he is better than you or I. Maybe he wanted to give some of his family and friends some jobs too - in an area where (for better or worse) they felt comfortable.

There is way too much killing and gun violence going on in Philadelphia - maybe this investigation will bring more national attention to this issue. Even Andy Reid's sons and Marvin (allegedly) are strapped-up and trigger-ready.

My bad Ditkas Cigar, he was suspended for 8 games, and spent 90 days in jail. Wait, let's not forget about the four years probation and 1000 hours of community service. My purpose was not to deflect anything away from Harrison, I just don't understand how people are making him out to be the worst guy in the world when they do not even know all of the facts about the incident. All we know is that he allegedly shot someone, if that counts as really knowing anything. Do we know why he might have done so? What if the guy threatened him? What if the other guy had a gun? These are the types of questions the police want answers to in order to determine motive and build a case. When you hear someone was in a fight, do you assume that they are some "thug" or "hoodlum," or is your first question why the fight happened? People love to jump to conclusions and all that I am saying is that people should wait before doing so. Jose Canseco was called a liar and ridculed until people started getting caught for doing steroids, and people actually thought that OJ was innocent for a long time. In addition, while it is not the smartest thing to be hanging around in bad neighborhoods, he is a grown man and can do whatever he wants. Well, anything legal.

LL was pre-Roger. I suspect Roger would have handled LL differently.

In fantasy drafts next year, think Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez.

Maybe Marv couldnt shoot straight because he is so mad and in pain over not being able to play much of last year... or ever again.

And another thing ... Why the heck does Marvin Harrison own not one, but two business in what is apparently a bad neighborhood in Philly? One of which is a bar that by all appearances appears to be a run down hole in the wall. And, equally important why does he hang out at these places?

"The fact that Leonard Little has killed someone while driving drunk, and he, to my knowledge, didn’t serve any jail time, and was not suspended by the league."

I could be wrong, but I believe that Little was suspended by the league his first or second year into the NFL.

It's amazing to me how many people keep trying to deflect this thing away from Marvin Harrison by bringing up other people, other incidents or by saying negative things about the person or persons who were shot.

@MidnightGreenOmen555
What a silly comment. There are thousands of professional athletes that are positive role models. People just don't focus on the positives.

But for one recent Philadelphia-related example, look at Brian Dawkins and his donation to the Children's Hospital in honor of the first birthday of his twins that were born prematurely.

just when you think the NFL really doesnt have a problem, its only a small percentage of the players, this happens. Yup the NFL is filled with thugs and hoodlums, it says something when the NFL makes the NBA players look good

Do you know what is infinitely more worse than this incident? The fact that Leonard Little has killed someone while driving drunk, and he, to my knowledge, didn't serve any jail time, and was not suspended by the league. And no one even brings this up when they talk about him. It should be brought up everytime the guy plays and he should be the most hated guy in the league.

so i guess this ends the chance of any future trade to the iggles. Marvin and Mcnabb would have been a perfect duo, two syracuse, two quiet guys, guys that always had critics, imagine them together, i still believe mcnabb would have at least 2 superbowl rings if he had harrison or moulds in the prime of their careers.

Why is everyone talking about what a good guy Harrison was, and how this is disappointing? Harrison has a history of being a turd, but people never called him on it because he was quiet on the field.

I find it enteraining how so many have rushed to defend Harrison. I'm curious, do they know him personally? Just because the guy was rather reserved on the field and in front of fans, says nothing about what his life outside of football is like. His rep is forever ruined with this, even if he didn't pull the trigger. The fact it's his gun says enough to me that he's just as much a thug as some of these other players who make headlines. I have no problem with people owning firearms, but why does he have it with him at his restaurant? Looks like Torry Holt is the only elite receiver left with any sort of face anymore.

It's time for the CBA to have a clause that players can't own bars - for their own sake. Liquor and guns don't mix. Harrison's career is most likely dead and it seems that jail time is a real possibility. Sorry to hear that Harrison was involved. I thought he was the consummate pro on and off the field. Obviously he had issues that either he and/or the Colts hid well.

"Bullet holes from his gun in a house mean nothing if there was no one can put him at the scene at the time of the shooting."

Didn't a whole bar full of people see him argue with the guy and follow him out ? I'd say he was pretty conclusively at the scene.

"What plane is everyone from? If someone gets shot, and doesn’t report it to the police - it’s probably because they were doing something illegal when they got shot."

Does it matter? A crime is a crime and 2 negatives don't make a positive. He ran out with a gun chasing a guy that got shot by his gun. Hmmm.

Now that we know that the Bullets did indeed come from Harrison's gun I am outraged. With the limited amount of positive athlete role models in this world, Marvin used to be one of the few. There was a point in time when we could look to Harrison to provide a positive image for youngsters in urban settings. Especially in Philadelphia where Marvin grew up. But now we can't even do that. I understood Pacman Jones and Chris Henry, those two were trouble from day one. But Marvin has always stayed away from trouble, that is until now. The fact that the bullets came from his gun have tarnished his positive image forever.

If Harrison has good lawyers, he will probably beat it if they decide to press charges. If the shootings happened at night, it's hard to identify someone clearly. Bullet holes from his gun in a house mean nothing if there was no one can put him at the scene at the time of the shooting. Then the victims' past is going to come into play so they have to be squeaky clean. I'm not defending the guy, just bringing up some things that will inevitably be brought up if this matter is pursued.

Just a quick question: Is it only me, or would you like to see the police show the same effort given for the random joe who is murdered that they give to a cop that is murdered? A life is a life right?

Days after the fact a third person comes forward to say they were shot AND they specifically name Harrison? Hmm...

It's either damning evidence or someone shamelessly jumping on the bandwagon. Take your pick.

If it ends up that Harrison shot somebody (except for in self defense, which appears highly unlikely here), I don't see how the league can not suspend him for a year, even if he somehow escapes jail time.

Hmmmm I wonder what Saint Dungy has to say about this....

Tis a sad, sad, day for the NFL.

We'll see if Goodell and his best buddy Polian sweep this one under the rug. It'll be tricky, but if anyone can do it, they can.

After all, they were able to do it with the pumped in sound at the RCA Dome.

Self Defense My Ass. How can some on here say it sounded like Self defense when accounts say Harrison followed the guy out of the bar? I guess he did not take the gun out there with a purpose. SOunds like the other guy might have a self defense claim if he were prosecuted but Harrison seems to have had the intention in popping a cap in some Killadelphia area guys ass. Marvin Harrison for Mayor of Killadelphia!
