Why I don't believe Cedric (and these are his actual quotes!):

1) "I couldn't breathe, I'm choking, I'm begging the cops, 'Please stop. Please stop.'"

Uh, if you're choking (which Benson is very good at), it's still hard to say "stop" let alone "please" - twice.

2) "Then they picked me up and dragged me backward toward their car. And I'm still being polite, asking them, 'Sir, could you please allow me to walk like a man to your cop car?'...

...and would you be kind enough, my good man, to pour me a snifter of your finest brandy?

And, MY FAVORITE QUOTE FROM C.B.:

"I started screaming for my mother to come."

Screaming?!? For his mommy?!?

The cops here were just trying to get their "quota." If I could pull anyone over-in a car OR boat- and charge them money, how long would it take me to be able to hire thugs with guns to do it for me? This is tyranny, and serves only to generate revenue for the state. More people should stand up against it, because it's not right. That said, Benson sucks.

why go to the boat when it is stationary... cause that's when the boat turns into a party boat. when it is stationary.

of course it is harded to corral when moving, and the cops might have suspected he would run his drunken love boat into theirs.

would his ego allow him to let someone else drive the boat? did anyone else know how?

but, after like 10 am... many boaters are 3 sheets to the wind... and a boating dui can be much worse than a driving dui. drowning deaths are rare from driving dui.

the same people defending idiots like Benson are the same people who think everyhting is one big conspiracy in this country. Whether you agree with the law or not, drinking while operating a boat is against the law. Maybe there are less boats, but the boat can damage property, any other boat, and the intoixacted person as well as whoever is on board if something happens.

No one was targeting Cedric Benson. The guy is a lousy football player and most of us would not be able to pick him out of a police lineup anyway. Its natural for people to get in trouble and blame everyone but themselves for their acts. I dont buy that the cops were out to get a nobody like Besnon and neither should anyone with any common sense. The way people sue, the cops would have to be out of their minds to do all of this with no reason. He was definitely drunk and resisting arrest

He said he was questioned by authorities six times? I hope that's not correct. If it is, I think I might have been a little disagreeable. Why did the authorities go to the boat when it was stationery? Something does not add up.

If he knows they are allegedly targeting him, why not let someone else drive the boat? Or go out on someone else's boat? Or do something that if the police do bust him, it becomes obvious it is targeting so that something can be done about it. An NFL player has the money to sue the police department for civil rights violations.

Before everyone jumps on Ced (yes, he stinks as a RB, but that doesn't make it more or less likely that he is telling the truth or lying), it sure does seem like "boating while intoxicated" is a perfect opportunity for selective enforcement by the cops. Let's face it -- everyone with a boat drinks on the boat. While it may not be a great idea, it's nothing like DUI, since there are so few boats. And if it is so dangerous, why aren't river cops constantly pulling over all the guys who are so obviously drinking on their boats? Bottom line, cops normally turn a blind eye to boats and beer, and yet Ced not only gets arrested, he gets pepper sprayed. All I'm saying is, let's let more facts come in before nailing Ced's coffin.

Benson's salary isn't that large the next two seasons, but he's got pretty big escalators (another 3 or 4 mil over the next two years iirc) that are very easy to attain--around 700 yards per season.

The cap hit to cut him is roughly $2 mil, which I believe could be spread over this year and next. So the cap hit isn't that bad, and the actual dollars saved for the frugal McCaskey family could be quite significant. Why pay millions more to an unproductive, unpopular and now potentially suspended running back, when you've spend a 2nd and a 3rd on running backs in the past two drafts?

I've been suspicious that the Bears are, like the Seahawks with Alexander, waiting until Benson can pass a physical to cut him. Angelo made some fairly indicting (no pun intended) comments about Benson around the draft, and this could be what puts him over the top (or under the bus).

More bad attitude garbage from Benson. He's been crying since the day he was drafted, and he'll continue to cry when he's scrubbing down boats for a living next year. Nothing is ever his fault and everyone is always out to get him.

$13.8M is what Da Bears have invested in this guy. That's enough to live a lifetime of obscurity (ask Ryan Leaf). Cedric Benson will be out of the league in two years. His retirement papers will make a resounding (((plop))) on Goodell's desk.

It doesn't surprise me that a police department would target an NFL player. Considering the recent history, they would likely make themselves more aware of the general actions of an NFL player to prevent Pacman-esque escalations from occurring. Now this could lead to a larger problem, what if Benson is telling the truth and in reality he was wrongfully accused and targeted? I know it's hard to believe but considering Benson is already on a thin line in terms of playing in the NFL considering his performance last year, I don't think he would go out so quickly and lie. It would in turn cause Roger Goodell to suspend him for longer than he had in mind previously and then seal the deal with the Bears cutting ties with him.

I don't like Benson as a football player and have already jumped on him for this story ... but let's wait to see how it pans out. What if he is telling the truth?

Benson is a joke, but I don't think the Bears will cut him quite yet. They actually DID hesitated to cut Tank letting him play on the Super Bowl after his troubles and then cutting him quietly after the season was over and it was convenient for him. We can only cross our fingers on Ced.

I'm willing to give Ced the benefit of the doubt. Those cops are redneck pricks, and may very well be targeting him.

I'm sure the cops know who Cedric Benson is, because he is such a celebrity. I wouldn't know Cedric Benson if I hit him with my car, but the very busy Austin police is out to frame a sub-mediocre running back.

The entire police force.

That sounds plausible. If you are a moron.

Typical Cedric Benson -- easy to tackle.

I heard he actually tried to run from the cops, but made it only 2 yards before being stopped.
