Washington Redskins rookie tight end Fred Davis didn’t attend the team’s minicamp practice today, and coach Jim Zorn said that although Davis was later located, Zorn still wasn’t sure after practice why Davis failed to show up.

“Everybody was scouring,” Zorn said. “Nobody heard from him, so there was one of two scenarios. Either there was some real trouble and we needed to find him, or he screwed up. I haven’t even got to talk to him yet. I know he has been found. I believe it is more in the ‘I screwed up’ category.”

A post on the Redskins’ official web site says Davis overslept. Davis and other rookies were staying at a local hotel during the three-day minicamp, which concluded today — perhaps Davis didn’t get a wakeup call because he offended the wakeup guy.

Davis was drafted in the second round, 48th overall, out of USC. He won the John Mackey Award last season as the best tight end in college football.
