Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart is, for the first time, speaking publicly about the infamous party photos that were widely circulated, leading coach Ken Whisenhunt to say he was “disappointed” and leading many fans and members of the media to question whether the photos serve as evidence that Leinart doesn’t take his job seriously enough.
While Leinart doesn’t agree with the judgments some have made about him from the photos, he does say, “it is time for me to step up, really time for me to go out there and play. I know the business of the game, and this game is competitive and we’ve got another great quarterback on this roster in Kurt Warner, who is pushing me every day to get better.”
Still, the mere fact that Warner is behind Leinart on the depth chart even though Warner’s passing stats were much better than Leinart’s last season raises the question of whether Leinart is being handed his position, rather than earning it.
For his part, Whisenhunt says he’s confident that Leinart is committed to earning that starting job.
“I’ve seen him up here [at the team facility] at times when he didn’t have to be,” Whisenhunt said, “going through tape, looking at last year, looking at technique, looking at opponents.”
Leinart, whose season was cut short last year by a broken collarbone, is throwing passes in minicamp and says he is close to 100 percent.

Is it just me or did they crop out the girl who was by Leinart’s groin area in the picture with the beer bong? I could have sworn I saw a girl there when I saw the picture the first time on the dirty. I don’t know why I even care when I have one more exam to worry about, but I’m guessing that I am not the only person to have seen that. On another note, last fantasy season I drafted Brady and Leinart, and I was telling people how I was going to trade Brady because Leinart was going to kill it that season. Let’s just say I’m glad I didn’t make that trade, even though I still lost in the finals by 11 because he didn’t put up his usual numbers against the Dolphins.

It is time for him to step up. Kurt Warner has done a good job covering his butt, but Leinart woln’t have that for long!

The question isn’t whether or not Leinart will be the starter. It’s how much of each game will Leinart actually play? Are we going to see more of the college system where they play Leinart for part of the game, put in Warner for part of the game, and continue to rotate throughout? For a guy that was supposed to be such a great coach prospect, Whisenhunt showed about as much potential to be successful in the NFL as the Whizzinator.

he doesn’t deserve to start!he is in his 3rd season and all he has done is get a broken collarbone and been forced by his coach to share time with a high priced back up qb. then he had the audacity to have a party at his home in the off season!what was a young single rich guy under 30 thinking?cut him right now as I am sure no other team would want him right?how can you judge a guy based on as little time he has started?if they aren’t going to play him then why draft him?you can’t learn if you don’y play and between the injury and being pulled every other series how do you expect him to improve?

Warner is the only great quarterback on the roster and it has been awhile since he was great.

I believe Leinart will finally be that guy we wished he was last season. The line is shapping up thanks to Grim and Levi Brown getting a year older. All of the starting offense (sans Johnson) will be back, but he is replaced by Doucet. So everyone knows the offense, and will be smarter, stronger, and healthier. I really think the Cardinals will impress this year.

If i was coach Whisenhunt I’d be more worried about keeping Leinart away from exploading champagne bottles.

Leinart has hit the snooze bar on his career at least twice already. With those receivers, he shouldn’t have many excuses.

Thank you Art Shell for taking Huff instead Leinart, the knuckle head.
You pissed of the old man but I’m sure he’s over it by now.

He needs to get hotter chicks to party with if he wants us to believe he’s stepped it up.

Let’s face it, the Cardinals are going to give Leinart a chance because he was a first round pick, but they’ll also keep Warner in case Leinart proves to be another first round bust.

Let’s lay off this guy. Dude was partying in the safety of his own home. He’s getting more flak than all these guys that are getting in trouble at clubs.

I too am shocked at the low quality tail Leinart was working with at his little house
party. I could do better than that with just the cash he has without a football career
and fame. He does need to really step it up a couple of levels.

Is it just me or should this be a complete and total non-story? Let’s analyze the facts…
1. The guy was at home in his own hot tub
2. He was drinking alcohol - not doing drugs or anything illegal
3. He didn’t miss practice or training camp - it’s the offseason
4. He didn’t get into fights, accidents, or trouble with the law
I mean seriously people, cant a guy enjoy himself in the comfort and privacy of his own home? He did NOTHING wrong…

And he wonders why he dropped so far in the draft? He’s terrible, I’m hoping he re-injures his collar bone and gets one of his 17 year-old girlfriends knocked up. Another NFL bastard is what we need.

How can a guy not consistently succeed with Boldin and Fitzgerald as his WRs? Ryan Leaf could put up numbers like Leinart’s.
