KVUE News in Austin, Texas, is reporting that Bears running back Cedric Benson was arrested early this morning by the Travis County Sheriff’s department.
The report does not give a reason for the arrest, but does say Benson is out on bond.
Benson has had previous legal trouble. In 2004 he was found guilty of criminal trespassing in connection with a break-in at a woman’s home. In 2002 he was arrested on marijuana possession charges.
The Bears’ 2005 first-round draft pick, Benson has been a disappointment in the NFL. After the Bears used their second-round draft pick on running back Matt Forte, there has been talk in Chicago that Benson won’t be around much longer.

When he was crying in his combine videos about how he hated being referred to as the next Ricky Williams (the year he went MVP)… and cried he will never live up to his reputation in the NFL like him, nor college. That would have been a good sign that kid was damaged goods.

This arrest could prove costly. It suddenly looks like a good idea to draft a running back in the draft, not a QB.

Now is the time to strike Jerri Angelo!! Bring in a veteran #2 running back and move forward. Then we can add this kid to the number of the screwed up Chicago Running Backs history to 1st round bust since the 90’s. Cedric pattern of crappy playing and he is just plain weird person. There are going to be several more veterans available after June 1st too. Just make the Chicago bears fan feel better already about this upcoming season! Hell if the commissioner gives him 8 week for player conduct off the field, then we eat only half on the salary cap and cut him now!!! I hate for the fact the turd watch is turned back again on Bear this time.

This is why I can’t believe how Upshaw, a guy who worked his tail off in the NFL for peanuts, continue to insist on giving guys like Benson huge money upon entering the League.
Why else but to satify the greedy agents who have their greezy tentacles all over him and the PA!!
This continues to be problem numero uno in the greatest league in the World.
Am really getting to loathe Upshaw.

I truly believe all teams that reach that pinnacle of success such as the superbowl… and LOSE… suffer the decline of the franchises aftermath. Good examples are the Falcons, Titans, Eagles, and now the Bears. When you reach that superbowl… you better WIN IT, cause you will never be back!

I have an idea for the Bears organization. Stop picking offensive skills position players in the 1st round: Benson (2005), Rex Grossman (2003), David Terrell (2001), Cade McNown (1999), Curtis Enis (1998), and Rashaan Salaam (1995).
This is not a selective list of 1st round busts at the offensive skills positions. This is EVERY SINGLE player at the QB, RB and WR positions drafted by the Bears in the 1st round since 1995!
BTW - The decision to let Thomas Jones go and keep Cedric Benson just looks worse every day.

Everyone knew this guy was going to be a bust on draft day. Instead of being happy and excited that he was a high pick and about to earn tens of millions, he was more focused on bitching about the draft process and all that. He’s always had a bad attitude and he doesn’t put forth any effort. How he’s not already washing dishes at Denny’s for a living is beyond me. Cut this scrub and replace him with any udfa RB and there will not be any drop off in production.

Now we can play Matt Forte. I hope that guy is good. His college numbers certainly indicate that, except I didn’t like the 3.9 YPC sophomore year, if I recall. Regardless, Forte looks impressive, and we ought to see what he can do.
