David Jacobs, a convicted steroids distributor who already has been linked to veteran lineman Matt Lehr, now says that he wants to help “clean up” pro football.

“I want to help them understand the loopholes, how I was able to help people beat the tests, and how prevalent steroid use is,” Jacobs said after a sentencing hearing on Thursday.  Jacobs received three years’ probation, and he must pay a $25,000 fine.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told the Dallas Morning News that the league is interested in speaking to Jacobs.

But Jacobs says he’s not interested in naming names.  “I don’t want to ruin anyone’s life,” he said.  “I just want to make things right.  I got into this to help people, and I want to finish it helping people.”

Though we’re not sure what Jacobs can add to the league’s ongoing efforts to catch steroids users, working with him can’t hurt.  If he had indeed been providing steroids to players who haven’t gotten caught, Jacobs clearly knows a thing or two about using steroids in a way that avoids detection.
