For the commenter who said "maybe we need a playmaking QB".

Last time I checked Donovan McNabb was one of the top playmaking QB's in the league.

Count me among the Philly fans who desperately want an elite WR to bring back that incredible year of unEagle-like offensive production in TO's first year.

But don't count me among those who think the Eagles are done and the window's closed just because they did not get one.

DEFENSE wins.

Granted, the Eagles may not appear to have an elite defense. But no one thought the Giants did at the start of last season.

If the Eagles can find a way to make it work with Lito, their secondary will be the best in the league. Their pass rushing should be improved. Their LBs are all very young but one year better (hopefully) and show signs of being a decent unit.

Special teams are vastly improved.

Both should give the offense a shorter field to work with. And the offense is not completely without talent. Westbrook is arguably one of the best, dare I say..."playmakers"...in the NFL. McNabb will now be fully recovered from his knee injury. The offensive line is above average. And Curtis, Brown, and LJ Smith are not completely devoid of talent.

I recognize that Dallas may have been the best team in the division last year. And they improved the most in the draft. The Redskins made the playoffs. And that the Giants are the guys that didn't lose the last game of the year. I know the Eagles start in the cellar and have a long uphill season to climb.

I'm not saying they're the team to beat. I'm just saying that there are reasons not to count them out other than only die hard fan optimism.

What a sad and tragic waste of a talented team. All this team needs is some real receivers...is that really too much to ask? I know, I know...they tried to sign Moss, and they've inquired about Boldin, Roy Williams, and Ocho Cinco. But they failed to come away with any of them. They passed on Devin Thomas in last week's draft, and settled for the lightweight DeSean Jackson. Sadly, it looks like more of the same in 2008.

We'll (Bucs, Inc) take Curtis and his 1000 yards and no flash anytime you want to release him. We'll even give you Michael Clayton (snicker).
BTW, thanks Eagles for Jeff Garcia.

Am I the only one that thought this post was somehow related to Marvin Harrison's establishment?

And its not the Eagles receiving corps, its the Eagles receiving corpse(s).

@Fredex "I think Kevin Curtis is an improvement over Stallworth. Reggie Brown struggled..."
Reggie Brown struggled because of no Stallworth. Stallworth was the reason Reggie played well, so Curtis wasn't an improvement.

Clearly, McNabb meant he wanted a new T.O. - someone like Williams or Fitzgerald. Still, I gotta agree with FredEx - Philly's offense was right up there over the season, and their defense was really coming together. Just because Curtis isn't flash doesn't mean he's not a productive receiver.

Even if he said play-makers... the receiving corps for the Eagles SUCK. He has every right to demand maybe just 1 top-flight WR.

The organization tried to get Moss... wouldn't that indicate that the organization ALSO realizes he needs more help. Westbrook probably doesn't enjoy being the most talented receiver on the team.

Let me break it down for everyone, when Five said that we needed "Playmakers" he meant we needed a top-flight wide receiver. So Andy put down the cheesesteak and pick up the phone and call Detroit.

It can't be explained more clearly than that.

He's right. He didn't say wide recievers. He just said "Playmakers"(maybe we should get a play-making QB!)

Seriously though, when asked if he was happy with the off-season transactions, he said in complete sincerity "no comment". He wanted another T.O.

I don't think it's a complete tragedy that we didn't land one of those big name WR's, but it would have been nice.

With most of the same players, the Eagles had the #1 offense in the league for the 06-07 season. I think Kevin Curtis is an improvement over Stallworth. Reggie Brown struggled against man coverage for most of last season, but he started to improve toward the end of the year (and when McNabb is healthy and more mobile he can force teams to not use much man).

Special teams have been a big weak spot, but I think the team has done a lot to shore them up this offseason, between drafting Jackson and making some less flashy moves like signing Kris Williams.

And the defense should be quite good. A lot of those young guys were really coming on at the end of the year, and this off season should have done nothing but make it even better.

So, as an Eagles fan, I'm optimistic. A Randy Moss sure would have been nice though.

I like this comment by McNabb. Obviously, he hasn't been an "Reid guy" since the whole Kolb draft thing.

On whether offseason changes were to McNabb's satisfaction: "It wasn't to my liking."
