ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio is reporting that Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham will be taking over the investigation of the shooting outside a North Philly bar owned by Colts receiver Marvin Harrison, an investigation of which Harrison is apparently the target.
Today the Philadelphia Police Department is devoting its energy to the police officer who was shot and killed when he confronted suspected bank robbers, so the Harrison case — in which a 32-year-old man was shot in the hand and a 2-year-old boy was cut by broken glass — is not the Department’s top priority.
But Paolantonio reports that police in Philadelphia are following leads, including trying to get a possible third victim to tell them who did the shooting.
No one has been arrested in the shooting and no one has been identified as a suspect. However, Paolantonio says Harrison could be asked to answer more questions early next week.

Began with a bang (literally), ends with a whimper…mark my words…come September it will be, “Marvin Harison owns a gun? Yeah a dart gun!”

What the hell is a 2 year old doing outside a bar at night anyway? And how many multi millionaires hang out at their carwash….with a gun used to shoot a man the night before? Was the BadaBing booked up?

This sounds like it could be the end of what was a hall of fame career.

so i guess everything stops now and the police department will never be of service since they are focusing on a cop who died, as if there aren’t other officers who can handle this case?

I have to admit, I never would have thought in a million years Marvin would ever be remotely involved in a situation like this. That said, it’s still too early to jump to any conclusions. I have to keep reminding myself of that. Not the easiest thing to do though because I’ve been burned before…you name it, Vick, Pac Man, Henry…the list goes on and on. Let’s hope Marvin’s not the latest.

When this goes to trial, I wonder if the Colts will pipe in crowd noise at the courtroom.

If my years of watching Law and Order have taught me anything, I’m pretty sure that the DA is still reliant on the cops for their evidence in order to make a case against him. The only thing that may change is the person who is asking questions and looking at the evidence. Then again, I am getting this from a TV show.

Refs 21-Seahawks 10,
The shooting took place in the afternoon. Many bars are in neiborhoods. A mother could have been walking her daughter in a babycarriage and got hit with the glass.

You see, there’s this little department known as the Major Case Squad. Since Philadelphia does not have many “major cases” there are not that many people in the department. So when you have a shooting at a bar that involves an NFL WR and a case where a cop is killed, which one of those cases do you think the Major Case Squad should handle?
The DA’s investigators are all former Philly PD. They are more than capable of handling the shooting.
Also, to a lesser extent, there is a new Police Commissioner changing things and that could also be a factor is why they are short handed.

I find it funny that people are mentioning self defense. From Reports, Marvin followed after the guy outside the bar. And I assume since the guy was shot with a rare gun that Harrison Owns, hem must have grabbed it when he was chasing after the guy. I assume he grabbed it with a purpose. So if the other guy had a gun and was being chased, I would think he would be the one saying self defense. I would assume. But assumptions are just that. Ass makers.

FEW MAJOR CASES???? They say Philadelphia is known as Killadelphia and is making a run at Detroit for the deadliest city and they have no major cases? Hmmm. I guess Murder is a misdemeanor in Killadelphia.

Bubba,
I think that’s a little excessive. Either way, one of the three bank robbers/cop killers is still on the run, they know where Harrison is. Obviously, they have time to get to Harrison when they’re done finding Eric Floyd. A “Major Case Squad” does not deal iwth everyday murders, they deal with cases that will have the public exposure of celebrity involvement or a cop being killed, etc. As a Philadelphia resident, I am fully behind this method of handling these events. We cannot have people shooting at our officers. We have to make a statement saying “You shoot at a cop, you get either killed or arrested and you get life. (I think it should be the death penalty if you are convicted of murdering one of Philly’s finest.) If criminals no longer respect the badge, cops become a target, and then, in any city, anarchy would result. It’s not as though we can’t get around to Harrison when we have the time.
