Lost in the recent Jared Allen/John David Booty horn-blowing hysteria in Minnesota is the fact that a major question mark still hovers over the franchise — the status of left tackle Bryant McKinnie following a February arrest in Miami.
We’re hearing persistent rumors that the Vikings are preparing for the possibility that they’ll begin the season without McKinnie, due to a suspension.
One month from today, McKinnie stands trial on various charges, the most serious of which is that he played tennis with a bouncer’s head as the ball, and a metal pole as the racket.
McKinnie previously pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct due to his, um, actions on the Love Boat.
It’s possible that McKinnie has been summoned to meet with the Commissioner even before his trial, for a review of the situation pursuant to the Personal Conduct Policy. However, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to provide information as to McKinnie’s case, citing normal league policy. “We do not generally comment on the timetable or other details of a specific review, including what steps the commissioner may or may not take,” Aiello recently told us via e-mail.
Although the Commissioner normally doesn’t take action under the Personal Conduct Policy until the underlying case is resolved, the policy plainly states that this approach applies only in the event of a “first offense,” and to cases that don’t involve “significant bodily harm.” We don’t know whether the bouncer suffered “significant bodily harm,” but since it clearly wasn’t McKinnie’s first offense, the policy permits the league to impose discipline based on its own investigation, with or without a prior conviction or guilty plea.
Chase Johnson is listed as McKinnie’s backup on the team’s online depth chart. They did not add any tackles in the draft. (A prior version of this item indicated that they selected Carl Nicks in round five. I was looking at the wrong team at the time. Sorry about that.)

Actually no..the Vikings did not draft Carl Nicks. We drafted some center out of Notre Dame. Nicks would have been a good idea, except McKinnie, and Nicks would have burned the Twin Cities to the ground.

The Vikings did sign Undrafted Rookie Free Agent, Drew Radovich (USC). He is listed as a Tackle. I believe he also played Guard. Not sure why he went undrafted, but from what I’ve read on the kid, he could be a huge steal and possible starter.

Doesn’t matter… Adrian will just run right… or straight up the middle for 150-200 per game… This next season is going to be a blast… The Vikes are loaded… T-jack is going to SHOCK the world with his progression and the rest of the NFC North is crap. A cake walk to the 17th division title and then we’ll punch the Cowboys in the face an make T.O. cry some more.
Can’t freaking wait!!!
SKOL!!!!!!!
Go Vikes!

damje311 since when are the vikes stacked? seems to me they are the same team as a year ago, plus 3 players….that makes them stacked? and i think the only people that will be shocked by t-jacks play are the people expecting him to lead the team to the superbowl…as far as mckinney, what kind of giant ass 300lb 6′6″ guy needs to use a freakin metal pole to assault a guy, not only is mckinney a menace to society he also appears to be a coward. typical.

The Vikes are gonna suck again this year. As soon as the league figures out how to play AP the queens will be saying hello to another 6-10 season.

The two posters above me need to do some homework before they start posting this crap. The Vikes had the best run game by a mile last year and this year will be better as AP is a sophmore. Then factor in the better receiving core(good riddance Troy). Then add a pass rush to the best run defense by far. Thats going to equal a 6-10 season…? Sounds like some people are skird.
GO VIKES!
Oh and Big Mac is a problem but not THAT big of one.

Boy Jared Allen is going to fit right with this team.
re: damje311
Sorta like the last 3 games of the season last year, when he ran for 150 or 200 yards a game. Oh wait…never mind.

The Vikings like Chase Johnson. He was the only UDFA to spend the entire season on the 53-man roster. He is a pure LT and the coaching staff obviously wouldn’t keep him around if they didn’t think he was capable of playing on an NFL level. If Mount Thug is suspended, I hope Chase Johnson performs well enough to make Bryant expendable and we can cut or trade him next season.

Anyone that thinks the Vikes are gonna suck haven’t watched too many Vikes games. Teams learn how to play AD? hahahha they already did it’s called put 9 in the box, except this year we actually have a WR who can catch. Last year they stacked the box and we still ran it down their throats. And our defense should be decent against the pass now.
The Vikes are stacked, put them up position by position against any team in the league, and you will see that if they had a decent QB they would be SB material. It all hinges on Jackson.

jyernberg….read my screen name and do it….the vikes D is stacked, adding Jared Allen is no small addition. We now have arguably the best D line in all of football, solid linebackers, quality corners, and have added another solid safety.
We now have a deep threat that can actually catch. And to all you cynics….If Troy “I should have never been drafted but lucked out with a Mike Tice run team” Williamson could catch we would have beaten Denver last year. If Kelly “where is my walker” Holcomb could throw we would have beaten KC, been 10-6 and playoff bound.
Say what you want about Tarvaris, he has skills whether you like it or not. If he can get his head together and play efficiently, the Vikes will be a threat this year. He was basically a rookie last year and as an NFL starter, has a winning record. Maybe we should go get Matt “I can beer bong much better than I can play NFL QB” Leinart. He was suppossed to be the next great thing and he looks like Kelly Holcomb on the field. Give T-Jack a chance!!
PS…McKinney is a douche!

Oh, how I long for the good old days, when McKinnie’s bar fights were seen as evidence of his sweet nature and desire to care for his friends:
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1208/is_10_226/ai_83794036/pg_1
From the article: “Last summer, McKinnie and some fellow Hurricanes were at a South Beach club called Crave. Heavyweight boxer Shannon Briggs was upstairs and started jawing with some of the Hurricanes, and next thing, Briggs knocked out one of the ‘Canes. McKinnie was away from the action…”He was outside with his shirt off, and I didn’t recognize him,” McKinnie recalls. “Yeah, I hit him. We were on the ground, and he got beat up pretty good. He got up with his eye swollen, and he stumbled off.”…McKinnie laughs. He likes that story…”

yes jared allen is nice, adrian peterson is obviously very talented…but how you vikes fans can sit bck and think that t-jack is gunna get you to the promised land is laughable. yeah he has a winning record but in the majority of those 8 wins he has, the defense scored something like 21 points….. i dont understand how vikes fans cannot be screaming and pleading for a replacement. how about you get a REAL QB and GIVE yourself a chance to win instead of just hoping that your defense can overshadow the fact the jackson is a bad QB. also, teams DID learn to satck the box against ap and what happened? you STILL had no passing game, yes some balls were dropped but more were overthrown, underthrown, thrown off target- get my drift? best way to describe the vikings?- last year 7 pro bowlers and an 8-8 record…how does that happen?

williamsbros you are right, but the fact still remains that you have a black rex grossman at QB and an idiot head coach calling the shots. those are two huge problems that will most likely cause you to underachieve this year.

t-jack is a t-joke. skins game against vikes is the blueprint for everyone else who plays them next year.
face it, the vikes cant play daytwa every week.
i cant say they will miss mckinnie that bad - they will move hutch to OT. then they will miss hutch at OG.
