In Friday’s first mandatory minicamp practice of the 2008 offseason for the 49ers, tight end Vernon Davis was in mid-training-camp form.

According to Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat, Davis (who routinely got into scuffles during training camp in 2007) mixed it up with Parys Haralson during a morning practice.  Later Davis ripped Haralson’s helmet off, and threw it.

(The latter move reminded offensive coordinator Mike Martz of the antics of Kyle Turley, which then caused Martz to water his khakis, due to the fact/allegation that Turley once threatened to kill Martz.)

Coach Mike Nolan hopes that Davis doesn’t get into too many fights with teammates.  Not because he thinks that his guys shouldn’t be fighting, but because Davis is generally regarded as a beast. ”In a fight, he’s a dangerous guy because he’s so strong,” Nolan said.

Of course, the players likely wouldn’t be fighting during non-contact offseason workouts if they weren’t getting riled up by the contact that routinely occurs during the helmets, T-shirts, and shorts sessions.  But since no one else cares about this anymore, we don’t either.
