"Huh, onanygivensunday. That’s weird. I could have sworn the headline read that Marvin Harrison was interviewed during the investigation, not Tony Dungy. Guess I need to suspend “judgement” on whether or not Harrison (Dungy?) is “guiltly” until I put on my reading glasses. Besides.. it’s the “christen” thing to do.

*snicker*"

kayc..Harrison may have been interviewed, but you also forgot to mention that he is under investigation for this shooting. I never said Dungy was under investigation or...guiltly. Looks like it's time to get yourself an edjumacation.
By the way, would you put the same judgement on Belichick?

Oops, did I spell christian wrong? Thank the almighty Lord we have the spelling police around here. Here's what I think about that: You are such a bore and a little old, but since you like to correct spelling errors, correct this, I'll keep it clean...suleses oernps.

snickers? Who snickers? So persnickety...

You know the state of the wide receiver in the NFL is pretty bad when you have to literally be shoot someone to be considered on the same level.

Huh, onanygivensunday. That's weird. I could have sworn the headline read that Marvin Harrison was interviewed during the investigation, not Tony Dungy. Guess I need to suspend "judgement" on whether or not Harrison (Dungy?) is "guiltly" until I put on my reading glasses. Besides.. it's the "christen" thing to do.

Say what you want about Belichickbeing a cheater...at least he isn't guiltly of attempted murder. Oh where oh where is St. Dungy. How can this happen to such a christen man who never judges others and does only good.
Yeah right he.spoke loudy about his judgement against Belichick. Comparing Belichick with Barry Bonds. Wonder how he feels now that Harrison is being judged by Pacman, But this could be worse for Harrison...he pulled the trigger.

Whenever something happens that utterly shocks you, it is crucial that you examine the things you know carefully:

**Marvin Harrison messed his knee up bad and this is the first time his longevity of his career has been called into question.**He was involved in a fight with a regular patron at a bar that he owns.**Ron from NM knows an assload about firearms and explained the forensics explicitly.**The gun in question was a custom made Belgian handgun which he owned along with 24 other registered firearms.**Overall, his criminal record is pretty clean.**

Who knows what happened to set this off? Some version will be released by all parties, I'm sure. It's especially unfortunate because he is so well respected in the public eye. We'll see how it plays out, but IF he fired seven shots and hit the guy in the hand once, he was either trying to scare the guy or he's a horrible shot. Even if it was a lapse in judgement, it's reckless.

Mr. Harrison is really all about himself and always has been. I bet when the truth comes out the person he shot at was probably messing with his boyfriend. That is where his boyfriend lives Philly...

Well if Harrison was smart like Pacman he would just hire someone to shoot they guy...

Why can't these athletes own like an amusement park or a Dave and Busters, where people go with their family. Not a place where people go to get drunk and subsequently pissed.

to the idiot who asked why athletes need to carry guns when they can beat up 99% of the people in the world...do you not have common sense? a guy like me would get my ass kicked from someone like warren sapp but if i had a gun and they didnt, i know i can kill everyone person in the NFL one on one. incidents that happened to sean taylor and eddy curry are why athletes carry guns. because there are too many black thugs out there trying to climb over another person success they didnt earn

You know what they always say, "It's the quiet ones you gotta look out for"
ESPN reports he has 25 guns...over kill
.50 caliber...over kill
and, if I read this correctly, this guy got shot from behind!
Spineless, gutless, low life!
Bring it on!!!

something else is up if he hasn't been arrested already. the way this reads, it sounds easy open and shut. but they haven't arrested him. there's got to be more to this. i actually wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't the actual shooter but it was his gun, something like that.

I've never understood why he's perceived as such a "great" guy. He's always come off as kind of angry whenever I have seen him speak, like when approached about his lack of production leading up to the Super Bowl.

I guess as long as you're one of the wide outs that is quiet as opposed to a loud mouth showboat, that makes you a "great" guy in the eyes of the media. go figure. they'd probably still be saying Ray Carruth was a "great" guy, except he ordered a drive by on his kid's mother. So loudmouth = bad guy and quiet = good guy. that's funny.

So loudmouth = bad guy and quiet = good guy. that’s funny.

To be fair, I'd say that most pro athletes need to carry a gun these days. They are such obvious targets and size/strength/speed doesn't help you when the other person in a dispute is armed with a gun or a knife.

The real legal question is whether Mr. Harrison felt in danger when he fired. If the victim was fleeing, self-defense will be harder to claim. If the victim was coming towards Mr. Harrison when the shots were fired, then it's a different tale.

My big question is this -- Are there any star wide receivers that aren't bat guano crazy in terms of their personal behavior? No wonder Andy Reid doesn't want to acquire one. His sons give him enough criminal and crazy behavior to deal with on a daily basis.

People...calm down. It is way too early in this process to be talking about "the end of a career" and "now he won't have to worry about giving a hall of fame speech" and a lot of other nonsense that's been posted. Can we let this play out at least to the point where Marvin is a suspect before we convict the guy? The way he has conducted himself on and off the field over the years gives him enough equity - at least with me - for me to be respectful enough to give him the benefit of the doubt. Let's see what develops.

Problem is Harrison is from Philly and still maintains some kind of lifestyle here. Philly is one of the most dangerous cities in the country and there are those out there who will challenge anyone if given the right opportunity. I'm hoping Harrison had a very good reason to fire a gun. Some parts of Philly you truly do need one. But if he fired for no good reason, then he is truly stupid.

I totally think I could kick Marvin Harrisons ass. In fact I will make a list of NFL players I could throttle;

- Most kickers/punters
- Any NFC West QB
- Shaun Alexander

Who do you think would be the best street fighter in the NFL?? I would probably go with Wes Welker.

The article doesn't mention what caliber the handgun is. I don't know of any production Belgian .50 calibers. I guess he could have gotten something literally custom made from the frame up, though that seems kind of strange given that the Desert Eagle is both really cool looking and easily obtainable. Fabrique Nationale (Belgian) does make a 5.7mm semiautomatic handgun (not the same thing as a .50 caliber) that fires small yet high velocity rounds. It's not a custom gun (though custom models might be available) though it's hideous enough to be loved only by people who pay the $1000 or so for them.

The article says that tests reveal that 7 rounds were fired. Tests, in this sense being a quick check of the magazine, counting how many rounds were left and subtracting that number from the magazine capacity. The 'tests' don't account for variables such as the magazine having been loaded with fewer rounds than it was capable of holding or that some magazines don't actually hold the number of rounds they claim to hold. A better 'test' would be to count the number of shell casing found at the scene or, better yet, find the bullets fired by the shooter. If it really was a .50 then the bullet holes in buildings and such shouldn't be too hard to find. 5.7mm holes, on the other hand, would be much harder to spot.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that Indiana has some version of the Castle Defense laws that have taken hold in large swaths of Red State America. He'd still be pretty much screwed if he indeed was the shooter because he would have left the scene of a crime--the one he'd have to claim was being carried out against him. He could further claim that he left because he was afraid of something the guy with the hole in the hand might do to him but that wouldn't justify not reporting it when he was no longer being threatened or lying to cops about the location of the firearm that was used.

If witnesses, video security tape, and/or powder burns point out that he was the shooter he's got nowhere to turn.

Sounds like Marvin took the car to the carwash to get the young girls blood off of it and left the gun while he was there.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt until more information comes out. PFT likes to jump the gun. (no pun intended)

Glad he did this after the draft. There were some decent WR's available when the Colts selected in the first three rounds.

Maybe he wants to be Super Bowl MVP soon and just choose the Ray-Lewis way of getting there?

I always endorse using caution before passing judgment on things like this. Still though, the way this reads, it sounds pretty damning.

Arlen Specter will be the leading the investigating I'm sure.

Yes, that was lame, and I enjoyed typing every last letter.

How about people not jump to judgement and let the facts come out before you start to COMPLETELY trash Marvin...true, it does not look good, but seriously dont jump too soon...

Something is not right with the initial story. Having seen work in a ballistics lab, with very few exceptions you cannot tell what firearm a bullet came from. After the fact you can easily compare the recovered bullets to a specific firearm by examining rifling marks or the recovered brass case can be compared to the extractors of the firearm. To openly say they came from a "Belguim" firearm is a huge stretch.

Now if he can only explain why said firearm was recovered in a bucket at a car wash....

Who says the average NFL guy can whup the average guy? Harrison isn't even over 190 lbs. and is easily recognizable anywhere in Indy... the average Joe that is regularly getting into trouble and starting fights could probably whip Marvin... other than his NFL background he's under 190, has a bum wheel, isn't exactly known for his strength and has made his money catching footballs, not throwing punches. I'd take the average streetfighting thug over Marvin everytime.

This may not be the case in this specific scenario but the rise of professional athletes being targeted for robbery has to be a concern for all of professional athletes. Shawn Taylor may have been the final warning. I would not blame any professional athlete for carrying some kind of weapon. Antione Walker and Eddie Curry were tied up and held at gun point. Jerome McDougle was shot in the stomach while getting into his car.
