Who’s the last guy in the NFL that you think would be involved in a shooting? Take a minute to write down a name. (And ignore the title to this article in doing so.)
If you wrote down “Marvin Harrison” (and more than a few of you undoubtedly did . . . especially if you weren’t able to ignore the title to this article), then you win.
The Italian leg lamp will be arriving tonight.
Harrison, per our friends (except one of them) at WIP radio in Philly, is being investigated for his role in a shooting that occurred Tuesday night outside his North Philadelphia bar.
Harrison was involved in an argument with the victim at the ironically-named “Playmakers” bar. As the victim left and was walking to his car, Harrison was following. Shots rang out, and the victim was struck in the hand. A young girl was struck by broken glass from a car that had been struck by a bullet.
Ballistic tests showed that the bullets came from a custom-made Belgian gun. Harrison owns one of the guns in question.
Questioned about it at a Philadelphia car wash that he owns, Harrison admitted that he owns such a gun, but that it has never left his home.
Later, the gun was found in a bucket at the car wash. Tests revealed that the gun was the same gun involved in the shooting, and that seven bullets were fired at the time.
Folks, Marvin is innocent until proven guilty. But unless there’s a socially-challenged [Editor’s note: Is that better?] cousin (or a dog with a thumb) on whom this thing can be pinned, Harrison’s quest for Jerry Rice’s all-time records might be derailed by something other than bad knees.

I remember when people were shocked that O.J. Simpson could possibly be involved in murder. Could Harrison be a similar case where his on-field image really masks his true character?

Seriously, it’s shocking. I think this is the last person I’d expect to be involved in a shooting.
Harrison has always been one of the more positive influences in the NFL. Only time will tell if this investigation amounts to something. We need to keep that in mind.

At least he won’t have to give a HOF speech now - I heard he has social anxiety and is really shy.

I think I echo the thoughts of PFT planet when I saw: WOW. I could not believe this when I read it. I always saw the guy as a class act and looked up to him for the way he conducted himself. No matter what happens out of this, that image is completely changed. I am glad that the victim was hit in the hand and not in the head as I first read it. I guess we all have to hunker down for another summer dominated by the trial of an all star athlete.

Peyton’s on the phone, saying that if Marvin had run the right route, this never would have happened. Never.

My least likely to be involved is a shooting is Alex Smith. #2 Chris Simms. But Marvin is up there, and holy cow forensics is crazy these days!

Wow, really would not have suspected him of being an idiot. But, then he deserves jail for just saying the gun never left the house when he probably knew darn well it was now in a bucket at the car wash. It’s called crediblity. Now that he has lied, everything he says about the events is questionable.

This is disastrous. It’s like if Derek Jeter tested positive for steroids.
If Michael Jordan really is an alien.
If like Roger Clemens had sex with a 15 year old.
If Hugh Grant would cheat on the amazing Elizabeth Hurley with a not so good looking prostitute.
If Michael Vick had killed a dog.
If the New York Giants beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl.
Then I’d believe Marvin Harrison shot a gun.
Holy Crap.

Wow…that is freakin crazy, you’re right I would have never thought of him.
But one thing kills me, why would he have his gun lying around in a bucket at one of his businesses. He can’t be that dumb. That sounds like someone trying to frame him right there.

This may not be the case in this specific scenario but the rise of professional athletes being targeted for robbery has to be a concern for all of professional athletes. Shawn Taylor may have been the final warning. I would not blame any professional athlete for carrying some kind of weapon. Antione Walker and Eddie Curry were tied up and held at gun point. Jerome McDougle was shot in the stomach while getting into his car.

Who says the average NFL guy can whup the average guy? Harrison isn’t even over 190 lbs. and is easily recognizable anywhere in Indy… the average Joe that is regularly getting into trouble and starting fights could probably whip Marvin… other than his NFL background he’s under 190, has a bum wheel, isn’t exactly known for his strength and has made his money catching footballs, not throwing punches. I’d take the average streetfighting thug over Marvin everytime.
