One of the curious subplots arising from the recent trade of defensive end Jared Allen from the Chiefs to the Vikings is that Allen has opted to enhance his efforts to avoid drinking and driving with the opening of . . . a bar.
The establishment named for Allen opened less than two months ago in Kansas City, and working partner/G.M. Chuck Tabor had no idea that Allen might be traded out of town.
“We’d have never built a restaurant had we known a trade might happen,” Tabor told the Kansas City Star. “Never.”
“I think fans really love Jared,” Tabor added. “This place was packed over the weekend for our draft party. We got over 100 cards from fans wishing him well. Will it last? I hope. People have short memories. If he’s not here, that makes it harder. People expect to come in and maybe see him or get an autograph.”
Tabor also is considering other options, like making the place a hang out for Vikings fans, or aligning with another member of the Chiefs.

Drunk Drivers opening bars? That’s a great way to set a new example. What next the Kellen Winslow School for Safe Motorcycle Riding?

How could Tabor be so naive?! Allen asked for a trade (close to over a year ago?), and with the franchise tag slapped on Allen (often a precurser to a trade) the writing was clearly on the wall. Granted, the tag was only recently applied (dec/jan), but still, I dont see how this can be a surprise given all the history with Allen and his requests.

He actually mentions Brodie Croyle as a a potential new focal point for the sports themed bar. I say go straight for Herm. “Hello? You drink to get f**ked up!”

It was probably nothing more than an investment for JA. Just like many athletes & celebs, they put some money in the deal, put their name on the marquis, come in for the grand opening, and a few special events, let somebody else run it, and reap the rewards. It’s not like he was planning on hanging out there drinking every night.

Yeah, so many guys with the franchise tag have been traded over the years.
And why would Matty B’s be available? You think Birk would leave his home state altogether over a contract squabble?
