One of the curious subplots arising from the recent trade of defensive end Jared Allen from the Chiefs to the Vikings is that Allen has opted to enhance his efforts to avoid drinking and driving with the opening of . . . a bar.

The establishment named for Allen opened less than two months ago in Kansas City, and working partner/G.M. Chuck Tabor had no idea that Allen might be traded out of town.

We’d have never built a restaurant had we known a trade might happen,” Tabor told the Kansas City Star.  “Never.”

“I think fans really love Jared,” Tabor added.  “This place was packed over the weekend for our draft party.  We got over 100 cards from fans wishing him well.  Will it last?  I hope.  People have short memories.  If he’s not here, that makes it harder.  People expect to come in and maybe see him or get an autograph.”

Tabor also is considering other options, like making the place a hang out for Vikings fans, or aligning with another member of the Chiefs.
