In our most recent post, we talked about the money that Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones can earn under his new four-year contract.
But he has to be reinstated before he gets paid. And if the guy whom Jones fingered as the trigger man outside the Minxx strip club in Vegas circa February 2007 is to be believed, Jones might not see a dollar of it in 2008, and perhaps beyond.
Arvin Edwards, in a phone interview with Nashville’s NewsChannel 5, claims that Jones has framed him.
“I’m not the person who done this,” Edwards said. “I’ve been shot before. I know how it feels.”
Edwards also denies seeking money from Jones after the fact for “services rendered.”
“I definitely didn’t receive no $15,000,” Edwards said. “I definitely didn’t extort nobody out of no money.” (Technically, then, Edwards is saying that he did extort somebody out of some money, but we don’t think that’s what he means.)
So who did the shooting? “[Jones] knows they name,” Edwards said. “He knows they street name. He needs to tell on them instead of trying to put this on me when he knows I didn’t do this and he know I never met him before and he know he don’t know me and I don’t know him.”
Edwards claims that Jones is singling him out because Jones wanted to cement his plea deal with police and pave the way for returning to the NFL. “I don’t have no reason to lie,” Edwards said.
And that’s where Edwards lost us. Because he clearly has a reason to lie. Because if he shot those folks, he’s going away for a long, long time.
Regardless, Edwards’ contention highlights the mess through which Commissioner Roger Goodell must wade in attempting to decide whether Jones is worthy of returning to the NFL. Jones now claims that the shooter inadvertently concluded that Jones ordered a hit. We’ve got a feeling that Jones told Goodell a very different version when they met prior to the imposition of that one-year suspension. If so, we might eventually see a pointed letter from Goodell explaining to Jones that he has yet to qualify for the privilege of playing pro football.
The bigger problem is that, if Jones is the star witness for the prosecution in the case of Nevada v. Edwards, the changes of a finding of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt are slim, which means that there might ultimately be no criminal sanctions imposed for the incident that left Urbanski paralyzed.

Actually, it’s a triple negative, so I guess he said what he meant.

It just kills me when pompous douche bags (that’d be you) like to tsk-tsk-tsk people for their grammar, even though their meaning is easily understood. In this case, though, you proved yourself to be a super-douche bag, because his statement was technically correct.
“I definitely didn’t extort nobody out of no money.”
Didn’t. Nobody. No money. That’s a triple negative. Triple negatives are common in speech of African-Americans, Caucasians throughout Appalachia, and lots of folks who speak other languages. So while the statement may or may not be factually accurate, it accurately reflects his intended statement. So get off your high-horse.

tsk tsk with the name calling! The point here is the obvious fact that Edwards is very uneducated and that permits one to wonder about his credibility. Easily understood is an opinion. I’ve never heard of a triple negative before, thus I had to read what he said more than once since I didn’t quite follow what he said. All I know is that it wasn’t proper English, and he sounded like he probably had class in the basement, got out a half hour before all the other kids, and took the little yellow school bus to school. School that I would venture to say he probably dropped out of!

His language didn’t reflect his intended statement. He obviously meant to say that he didn’t extort anyone. His statement however, admits that he did in fact extort SOMEBODY, (i.e. “didn’t extort nobody), but that extorted them out of “no money”. (extortion is still a crime regardless of what is being extorted.) That being said, regardless of whether his language accurately expresses what he meant to say, his English is extremely poor and is fair game to be made fun of.
p.s. The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t going to lose a game in 2008 so hop on the bandwagon.

I’m sure his collegiate career played heavily into constructing that triple negative in an intentional manner…and people like this wonder why they can’t get a fair shake in today’s legal system?
Did we all understand him the first time we read thru it? I’m sure most everyone did, it doesn’t make it ok.
But hey the whole point to this section is to debate these issues so omelette this one slide…

Do you guys really think Pacman was the only witness? Also do you think the cops brought Pacman in to identify this guy just because Pacman said he was the shooter? He couldn’t have ID’ed him by name, he apparently told the cops he didn’t know who the guys was. Pretty obvious that the cops had more reason than Pac’s word to believe this guy was the shooter.

Now that is one of the more pitiful displays of bad English I have ever seen. For those defending him, the moral is simple. It is hard to take a person seriously when an adult talks like a 2 year old. I think Pacman Jones is a thug and a loser, but this guy doesn’t sound too credible either. Florio is right, he has plenty to lose. Attempted murder is nothing to sneeze at

Edwards said a good description from the real culprits made it easy. Edwards has distinct tattoos and an amputated arm.
What is this, “The Fugitive?” I am having very serious doubts that Pacman has the mental capacity to implicate anyone of wrongdoing half as well as he implicates himself. He’s no Meyer Lansky.

No Vox - but don’t you agree it might help if he could at least speak a little bit more intelligently? Granted none of us knows exactly what happened that night and I am not judging here based on a short quote, but for arguements sake give me a break…obviously there is more than what has come out to this point and I agree with you that he was not pulled in as a suspected shooter based soley on the fact that Pac ID’d him…his explanation/defense makes him come off as a street thug so why would he expect be treated any differently in the court of public opinion as well as a court of law?

I guess the description wasn’t THAT good. There’s no mention of an amputated arm in the “Declaration of Warrant/Summons”. There IS mention of a “disabled arm”, but that info allegedly came from Christopher Davis.
If you read the Declaration again, police spoke to a woman that said that Edwards is her boyfriend, was in Vegas on the night in question, and that she had picked up money orders that were sent to Edwards from a “Crystal Gartrell”. Crystal Gartrell is a friend of Christopher Davis, allegedly one of the “go betweens”.

Agreed Kotite, I don’t think any of those knuckleheads is smart enough individually or collectively to put together an elaborate story that can withstand scrutiny from the cops and courts. Not even with 100% cooperation from Edwards.
