We’ve been flooded today with e-mails from PFT Planeteers in Philly asking about Internet reports (man, I hate those) that the Eagles have inked Oklahoma State receiver Adarius Bowman.
Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, the Eagles have not signed Bowman. We’re also told that they will not sign him.
Bowman was expected to be a first-day draft pick. An April 14 guilty plea to marijuana possession hurt him, and he ultimately wasn’t drafted.

I suppose a prerequisite for a position with the Cincinnati Bengals is hand eye coordination. Maybe the wacky weed is to blame for Bowman’s less than stellar Senior Bowl.

Biggest free fall after the college season ended = Adarius Bowman. He was considered one of the better collegiate WR’s and now he is an UDFA that might not even get picked up. Wow.

Really? A single possession? There has got to be something else. For no one to even invite him to camp he must have had some bad interviews.

There has to be more to the story. Guys got drafted who did, or allegedly did, worse.
Pick him up Eagles!

He’s had Lasik surgery twice in the past two years, needs contacts to play, struggles catching the ball.
Think Troy Williamson.

brian,
this is pure speculation on my part, but I’m guessing that its because of pot possession so close to the draft. The thinking being that if he was carrying/using pot so close to the draft, he either is a complete idiot, or he has a problem. Most programs allow that kids are going to try stuff. But to do it so close to the draft indicates that they are still kids, still focused on partying, and that they are not ready to make the transition to the NFL where you can’t have that frame of mind if you want to be a successful player.

brain_21: it wasn’t just the pot, it was slow, bad hands, bad attitude and probably bad interviews/meetings with coaches and scouts.
He had/has talent; however, it is wasted for whatever reasons. It’s a shame, but there are plenty of guys who want to work hard day in and day out that might barely make a roster vs. a guy with tons of talent but pisses it away.

It’s not the pot smoking that’s the problem, it’s more than likely the general perception that this guy doesn’t care. He had terrible workouts. He had to leave North Carolina. He was placed in a situation where hundreds of thousands of dollars were on the line and he went and got arrested. Investing in this guy is like investing in waterfront property on the Gowanus Canal.

I hate to see something like smoking pot in college ruin a guy’s career. He’s just a kid, and really, who cares? Isn’t that what college is for??

if weed was the issue Patterson would’ve been long gone. hell Capn’ Andy wishes pot was his kids problem.
now if that Lasik surgery story is true then that’s another kettle of fish.

If he had Lasik and wears contacts, maybe it was medicinal for Glaucoma or something? Anybody that gets compared to Troy Williamson, is better off out of football. It can be dangerous to get hit in the head repeatedly with a football, with or without a helmet.

This kid racked up over a thousand yards in both his junior and senior years. Not to mention that he will become a serious red zone threat to whichever team picks him up. And the Eagles need red zone help badly.
Sure the kid may have made a mistake, but who doesn’t make mistakes in college? And he admitted to making those mistakes.
The Eagles should have picked this kid up. Besides, its not like the Eagles don’t have any other players that got caught with possession of Marijuana.
I suppose Joe Banner was feeding us Bull sh*t when he said they were willing to take chances on questionable players if they could make the eagles a better team.

Bowman to the Titans? They can use all the WR help they can find right now even if the guy had a problem with pot before the draft.

Who cares if he smokes weed. 90% of the NBA does it. He’s already better than Hank Baskett, Jason Avant, Reggie Brown, Greg Lewis and all the other undersized bums, I mean receivers, they love to stockpile and throw on the practice squad. Besides, there’s no risk for the Eagles to pick him up since they’ll just cut him with their other draft picks after training camp.

There is more to the story guys…
Adarius Bowman has the physical tools, but character issues (two marijuana charges lying about it being in his past), underwhelming workout numbers (4.74 40-yard dash at the combine; 4.75 at his pro-day), too many drops (30 drops last season!), and a poor performance at the Senior Bowl killed this guys chances at getting drafted.
Even, so, I’m surprised that it seems to have destroyed ANY chance he had in professional football. Okay, so nobody wanted to draft him. I can understand that. That he wasn’t signed as a rookie free-agent is a little surprising, but apparently there were too many character questions to even offer him a modest bonus. But it’s really bad when your agent says you have no prospects at this point — not even one rookie camp invite!?
