Last season, the Cincinnati Bengals went through more linebackers than plastic handcuffs, as injuries (and a suspension) left them with hardly any healthy bodies.
Two of the guys who filled in have been rewarded for their efforts . . . by getting the boot.
Released today are linebackers Roy Manning and Anthony Schlegel. Manning appeared in five games, and Schlegel played in 13 games and starting five of them.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!
Roy Manning and Anthony Schlegel have robbed a liquor store at gun point, drove drunk with Manning puking out the window, paried with underage women and then arrested for assaulting a woman.
In a related story, the Bengals have decided they made a mistake releasing the two LBs and have signed them to longterm contracts.

And yet #85 still remains… One day they’ll realize that they were in fact rewarded for their efforts. The Bengals did them a favor by letting them go to Tampa and try out for the QB job.

With the 11 or 12 LBs on the Bengals’ roster, there was no way that these guys were going to make the team. At least now, they can try to make it on another team. You think that the Bengals should keep LBs that were cut by other teams as a reward for being available last year mid-season? What are you? A Stealers’ fan? LOL!

How fitting that with a turd soup roster, the Bungles saw fit to cut a high-character guy whom the Air Force Academy thought worthy enough to admit. Okay, so Schlegel is a borderline guy as far as talent, but still….

The Schlegel cut surprises me a little, but the Manning one doesn’t. Only reason that kid was on the roster was because Mike Brown misread the waiver wire and thought it said “Peyton”.

You are going to criticize the Bengals now for trying to IMPROVE their defense? Ok, tell them they have to keep everybody. Geez. None of the other teams ever cut their less talented players, do they?

Keith Rivers is looking like a really good pick when I saw the names again of who we were using last year. Schlegel wasn’t horrible, but it is nice to have someone with some pop again.

If there is any interest in these LB’s from their play wiht the Bengals, they will be picked up. You can not reward people with a spot on the team simply because they played mediocre football when other players where out or injured. The Bengals defense was awful last year, why in the world would they keep these two?

Being cut by the Bungles before training camp is a reward.
Playing for the worst defense in the NFL and not even making the roster is the hot route to the CFL or the Bungle trend, Jail. They at least have a chance to catch on with another team, with a shred of hope and dignity. They have a chance to be respected as a defensive player and not refer ed to in the punchline of every chuckle head commentator.
They are actually punishing Ocho Stinko by keeping him despite getting multiple suitors bidding for his contract. They may eventually cut him instead of getting any real value, Bungle fans prefer spite and getting mentioned in the media even if it is laughing at them and not with them.

Jeremiah, you have anger issues. Are you a Steelers fan or something? I am going to copywrite the word Bungle and sue people every time they say it. Geeze… Originality would be nice around here. Tell me your team and I will make fun of them with a witty retort.

I am not angry with the Bungles, I actually find them amusing when they are not beating my team. I am no Squealer fan, but I respect that franchise. I can’t stand the Clowns. That leaves the Harm City squad as the home town team, and favorite in the division.
I actually hated the Ravens too until they gave the Clowns their franchise back intact with skid mark colors and every historical player and records still attached.
I am a football fan first and a Raven fan second. I think the Bungles should free Ocho Stinko because all he did was request a trade, he has not done anything to deserve this kind of response.
Ray Lewis demanded that he be traded a few years ago if we were not going to use him properly, but our GM did not try to “send him a message” of shut up and play, they actually kept it in house and made some roster moves to make his job easier. Drafting Nagta, going back to the 4-3 look and keeping Gaurds and Centers away from him.
Jamal Lewis kept running his mouth more than he was his feet, so they cut him early enough last season to catch on with the Clowns of all the stinko places he could have gone, but they don’t keep players out of spite. They can play elsewhere if there heart is not in Harm City. We even ( to my dismay) let Adalius Thomas walk instead of franchising him and trading him.
When you have a real front office you can afford to let good players go and know you can replace them for less money. not force them out of football for having the nerve to try to get off the Cincy police most wanted suspects list.

Jeremiah is a half-witted “chucklehead” Ratbirds fan! He’s tired of the BENGALS spanking the Ratbirds 3 out of the last 4 times they’ve played, and now he’s resorting to begging.
Jeremiah, put the tin cup away and quit your begging. Try focusing on your 5-11 Ratbirds and let the 7-9 BENGALS worry about themselves.

Some of you guys need to do your homework, well Cinci had a bad year in 2005 since then they’ve only had a couple of accidents and the biggest problem was dealt with…Jaguars, buccaneers,Steeelers and amoung other teams all beat cinci on turd watch last year.Needing these scrubs because they aren’t trouble makers? They drafted 8 high character guys and 1 avg 4 of them being team captains this year.

To Nemesis:
Ah, the Ravens. I do like the show Ace of Cakes, so I guess its not sooooo bad there in Bmore… But… Rolling the dice with Joe Flacco will make Savage either Wyle E. Coyote (Super Genius) or they will set their franchise back 10 years (see Bengals 1992 - 2002). At least they traded down to get him, so the $$ isnt as high as it would have been at 8. I love how Kyle Boller could throw a potato 80 yards from his knees but couldn’t hit a reciever 10 yards away when throwing a freakin football. You got a 5′8″ RB in the draft, and the LT to replace Ogden in the 3rd from football power UTEP. Who knows about draft classes though, so for 08 I think your team will be pretty good but not elite D and decent running game but no passing game to speak of. Oh, and their logo is pretty lame. Maybe not ‘Striped B’ lame, but pretty bad. I prefer the leaping tiger myself.

“Wasn’t Manning the guy that thought a grand slam at Dennys meant to slam a guy with a laptop around?”
No, that was RICKY Manning. He plays for the Bears. He’s been convicted twice of felony assault….and suspended a grand total of one game by the NFL.
For those of you under the impression that the Bengals are the only team with off-field headaches, google “Arrests/citations: NFL players, 2000-Present” and check out the list on signonsandiego. You’ll most likely find your own team ain’t exactly a bunch of choirboys either.

Smells like Carson Palmer’s QB rating in the 4th quarter of games against playoff-caliber opponents.
