So now that the 2008 draft has come and gone, the NFL’s equivalents of H&R Block now have nothing to do until next year, when people start paying attention to them again.
But some of them want more attention now. And so Todd McShay of ESPN has cobbled together his first mock draft for next year.
We’ve printed McShay’s mock draft, laminated it, and put it in the drawer right next to the official PFT desktop. Next April, we’ll whip it out and thoroughly inspect it. (We’ll also look at McShay’s mock draft.)
The point of this otherwise pointless entry, however, is that the guy whom McShay thinks will go No. 1 overall — defensive tackle Fili Moala of USC, to the Falcons — is already preparing for life in the NFL.
By getting arrested.
Just last month, Fili was pinched for allegedly resisting and obstructing an officer who responded to a (you guessed it) bar fight.
Reached by the media on his cell phone, Moala said, “It’s an important event, but it’s being dealt with in-house. We’re well aware of it.”
We assume that you’re well aware of it, Fili, since you were the one who squeezed that six-five, 295-pound frame into the back of a squad car.

Please correct the link to the mock draft. Both links take me to the story of him being arrested. Thank you.

Uh, a 2009 mock draft? Right. For anybody that’s interested, McShay has The Pats beating the Cowboys in the super bowl even though the 08 draft was, you know, just a few days ago. McShay has WAY too much time on his hands. Anyway, Moala seems to be getting a jump start and should fit in very nicely in the NFL. Heck, if he decides to beat up his girlfriend he’ll fit in perfectly! Hopefully he doesn’t do that though.

The Patriots have the last pick in the first round. It looks like McShay just “crowned their ass”.

Mike,
Did McShay do one last year? It’d be great to see what he predicted.

It used to be that only hockey players had to get into fights to show they were ready for the pro’s.

Let’s make sure we tell the complete story here. The DA later declined to press charges. All Moala did was get up and “run” back into the bar. Hardly resisting an officer and not really obstructing anything since no where did it say he went back to fight.
In fact, the article, nor the police, ever said that Moala was fighting.

Are you kidding? This is when they’re busiest. Now they begin the year long tape watching of last year’s top players who didn’t enter the draft to be able to pin point who to observe over the next year. The time they spend on tv and on radio is just verbalizing the conclusions they came to through years of scouting and dissecting players top to bottom.

I guess Mcshay isn’t aware of the “Worst to First” tradition in the NFC South.

McShay’s 1st mock draft for 2008 wasn’t that far off considering it was done in December.

Charges were never filed against Moala and police confirmed that he was not involved in the fight and was escorted outside without incident. He later tried to re-enter the bar when he realized his friend was still inside, that is when we met resistence from the police who were not permitting anybody inside.

It would be classic if the Bengals take Fili Moala in round 1.
Moala would get extra points if he would shoot up a stip club, pee in the cop car, or drive naked through a Wendy’s drive through.

why do usc guys always get ranked high in the draft? its BS, pete caroll’s players are overrated in the NFL, sure they win in that easy pac-10 conference, but the pac-10 aint ever gonna prepare these young hollywood wannabes for the NFC East.
