The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to look for ways to limit the pinball-machine offense from Indy.
The latest acquisition? Veteran safety Pierson Prioleau, signed presumably to a one-year deal.
The 30-year-old from Virginia Tech has extensive experience with Jags defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in Washington (where Williams ran the defense) and Buffalo (where Williams ran the team).
Prioleau started every game for the Bills in 2002. He was poised to be a starter for the Redskins across from the late Sean Taylor in 2006, but Prioleau tore an ACL on the opening kickoff of the Week One Monday nighter against the Vikings.
For his career, Prioleau has appeared in 113 games, starting 47 of them.

Must be a slow news day… wow, can’t we talk about wrestling or something?

He’s a replacement for Sammy Knight, who was signed last year to be a backup but was pressed into starter duty when Gerald Sensabaugh was lost for the season.
Hopefully he’ll outperform Sammy.

Considering Sammy is on the Giants, I hope so too.

The time he was on the field in washington past few years specially before the acl tear he played well, and I know well with all the safeties we have had around here. He makes plays too, hes not elite but a very solid safety with some play making ability, or at least he used too. Not sure how well he is going to play now but greg williams has always loved him and known how to use him. Even being smaller hes solid in run support with good speed for coverage, he already knows the defensive system quite well so if any of your safeties should struggle expect to see him starting some.

Prioleau is far from being a playmaker…
in 3 years(2 really considering the ACL tear in 06 in week 1) in DC the guy failed to make a single interception
Greg Williams uses him as a nickle CB/nickle Safety tweener
not a big hitter but a decent tackler when he wraps up,and as far as his coverage skills go…you don’t want him covering TE’s because his lack of size will be exploited every time(5′11 190 pounds),and he lacks the quickness and speed to be left 1-1 with WR’s at this point in his career.
doesn’t bring a whole lot of range to the safety spot either in zone coverage.
pre-ACL tear he had solid speed and was good at covering slot WR’s,but
his coverage was mediocre in 2007.may struggle to bring down bigger players in open space.
competent backup but if you jags expect more than that you’ll be disappointed.

He’ll be used stictly in a back-up role (depth). He’s also there to get the Jacksonville secondary acclimated to Williams defense. I think the Jags are going to be pretty scary this year with Gregg Williams taking over the helm. That’s the reason they went after two pass rushers in the draft. A new philosophy in the AFC south, with the attack style defense. The Colts won’t know what hit them.
