We were excited when we saw the headline of the article:  “New Lions safety Kalvin Pearson Released.”

And then we saw the last two words . . . “On Bond.”

Pearson was jailed Saturday morning after (allegedly) assaulting his pregnant girlfriend.  He also (allegedly) was strangling her.

The attack (allegedly) occurred in a vehicle early Saturday morning.  He (allegedly) grabbed the woman’s hair and began to choke her.  Police later took photos of (alleged) red marks and bruising on her neck.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told the Detroit Free Press that the league will review the matter under the Personal Conduct Policy.  Though in most cases discipline is deferred until criminal charges are resolved, the league can take action sooner, especially if the case involves “significant bodily harm.”

The Lions are taking a wait-and-see approach as well.  “We’ll get as much information as we can right now,” Matt Millen told the Free Press after the draft.  ”We’ll get all the information, and then we’ll deal with it after we find out all the facts.”

If the Lions find out all the facts and release Pearson before Saturday, May 3, at 7:48 a.m. EDT, there are 17 “Turd Watch” points that will evaporate from their current tally.
