A day after signing free-agent defensive tackle Darwin Walker, the Carolina Panthers have added another free-agent defensive tackle who is a native of South Carolina and who was previously employed by the Bears and Eagles.
Today the Panthers announced the signing of veteran free agent defensive tackle Ian Scott.
Scott was the Bears’ fourth-round draft pick in 2003, and he was a solid starter in 2004 and 2005. But in 2006 he started to fall out of favor with the coaching staff in Chicago and lost his spot in the starting lineup to Tank Johnson. (He became a starter again for the Bears’ Super Bowl run after Tommie Harris was lost for the season with a Week 13 hamstring injury.)
A year ago Scott left the Bears to sign a free-agent contract with the Eagles. He spent all of 2007 on injured reserve with a knee injury.
If he’s healthy again in 2008, Scott will be part of the defensive line rotation that includes Walker and starters Maake Kemoeatu and Damione Lewis.

Good riddance to one of Philly’s big free agency singings last year.

In other words, their D-Line stinks…

Darwin Walker and Ian Scott.
Carolina loves old Eagles DTs as much as Brad Childress loves old Eagles WRs!
There’a a reason we got rid of them.

Are you not including Julius Peppers on purpose?

I think he wasn’t including Peppers in the rotation because he meant to say defensive tackle, not defensive line.
And while the Eagles have been pretty good about letting guys go when they’re washed up, I don’t necessarily agree with the implication that it’s the only reason. Injuries also happen, and that Philly organization has had so much drama over the past couple years that they’re just as likely to stage a production of “Anna and the King” as they are to win a playoff game.
