The South Florida soap opera is getting good.
Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald (via Sports By Brooks) reports that Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor recently was visiting with teammates at the facility, where they have been working out in preparation for the 2008 season without Taylor, who is participating in ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.
Taylor thereafter decided to drop in on V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells. Writes Salguero: “Taylor walked into a room where Parcells was watching tape, and Parcells ignored him. He looked at Taylor and went back to his work without saying a word.”
Ouch.
Taylor was reportedly “incensed” by the gesture. But probably not nearly as incensed as Parcells was when he learned that Taylor was trying to revise Parcells’ signature “This is why you lift all those weights” line into something more like, “This is why you do all those splits.”
Without question, Parcells hates the fact that Taylor isn’t working out with the team. The fact that Taylor’s distraction is a freaking dancing contest surely makes it even worse for the old-school Parcells.
To date, this saga has been publicly tame. It soon will be getting ugly, we think.

Parcells probably tolerates Taylor simply because of his ability.
Most other players would be gone.

Get used to it Dolphin fans. This was the reason why Parcells and TO didn’t work out in Dallas. Parcells acts immature when it comes to high profile players and it’s now showing with Taylor.

Al Davis should deal for Taylor after almost completely ignoring DL in the draft. Maybe ship next years 4th rounder as a conditional pick with a max value of a 2nd if Taylor has a Pro Bowl season.

I know that Jason Taylor is a phenomenal athlete and makes a lot of money. But perhaps he has forgotten that he works for Parcells and not the other way around.

Its going to be hell being a Miami player this year. I always hated Parcells when he coached the Pats, and that became loathing when he made the week before the SB against the Packers all about Tuna leaving the Pats and not about the big game.
He may be a good coach but he is a total jerk who treats everyone around and under him like crap.

I used to like armando, but over the last year it just seems like his female part has aquired a little bit too much sand.
He’s grabbed this Taylor piece and has continued to put the phins in a bad light. Maybe he’s pissed that he used to have an all access pass from the previous regimes but now that Parcells is in charge he’s actually having to WORK for a living.

Get ugly? It’s already ugly. Taylor needs to get his Fred Astair ass going. I’m tired of this crap from him. He dissed me too, when he started dancing for money.

Parcells is a Rick with a Prick and always will be. He does not respect anyone and demands respect from everyone. He is a Fat Bitch and I would love to slap him. I am a Cowboys fan and that is the same tone he treated the fans with. I would like to hit him in the FUPA!

Upon Tuna’s arrival in Dallas, he dumped Emmitt Smith who had a decent year or two left in the tank. He instead went with the great Troy Hambrick…
It’s only a matter of time before Taylor is shown the door.

Parcells is like Tom Coughlin. Both are old school guys. But Coughlin was able to change his ways…..giving the players some input (losing two loud mouths…Tiki and Shockey..helped as well) but Parcells will never change.

This is just a story because of the high profile names. You have to ignore many of the facts to see this having any impact in Miami.
The first being that Jason Taylor is a professional who has always conducted himself with dignity and class. I don’t know how anybody could picture a player of Jason Taylors character thinking of retaliating.
I’ve worked for guys just like Parcels, just like who you’re all describing. They can be assholes to be around all the time but people are forgetting that Parcels isn’t the coach, and doesn’t want to coach.
This whole story is just for the media. There’s nothing in it to suggest that if Taylor doesn’t get traded (which looks unlikely now) that he won’t come back and be the professional he’s always been.
The only thing he could do would be retire, but he’s trying to build a career of being liked and that wouldn’t fly well in the market with his biggest audience.

Sorry Taylor’s feelings were hurt…perhaps he should put away his tight pants and dancing shoes and get back to working out for football like the rest of the football players. I can see how a guy like Parcells might be a little upset by the situation.

Boo Hoo Tayor was incensed. Maybe he should be working out with his 1-15 team and being a leader as he is getting paid MILLIONS PER YEAR. Ya think its too much to ask to work out with the team? Parcells is the football boss in Miami, yes TAYLOR’S boss…..and his best employee is twinkle-toeing in Hollywood while tuna is getting his program underway. sure he is old school and gave him the cold shoulder….big friggin deal. I say good for tuna….no one is bigger than the team.

Insofar as UK sport has any lesson for the NFL here, Dancing with the Stars should not be taken as a negative indicator for future performance. Mark Ramprakash, a former England cricketer, put in two of the greatest seasons in the history of county cricket immediately after winning the UK version of the tournament at the age of 38. It’s good for fitness and footwork. Great players average around 60-70 in the county game. Ramprakash had back to back seasons, in the twilight of his career, averaging close to 100.

Man, that’s harsh! You mean a guy who makes his living as a football player and just happened to stop by for a visit with his teammates who also make their livings as football players was ignored by his new boss? No! You mean if your bartending job overshadowed your job as a Corporate Executive then the CEO would be upset?
If it’s true, get over it, Taylor. And for the Ya-hoos posting nonsense about “respect for players” and other horseshite, the dude is paid millions of dollars and under contract to play football and he’s damn lucky that the owner allowed him to go prance around for some extra cash.

He’s doing Dancing with the Stars for god’s sakes, not sitting on his butt. Trust me, he is staying in shape. His stopping by to talk was his way of keeping a part of the team even if he is not sweating in the weight room with them. Again, it’s not like he is staying in Hollywood not talking to anyone, pretending football does not exist. Who knows the dancing may help his footwork on the field. Football players used to take ballet lessons to help them. Who knows what the cha-cha can do.
Parcells needs to get over the caveman routine. It failed miserably with TO in Dallas. Now, he is trying to push a previous good guy into doing a TO. Way to get the team all on the same page there buddy. Dallas is very glad you are gone.
