The South Florida soap opera is getting good.
Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald (via Sports By Brooks) reports that Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor recently was visiting with teammates at the facility, where they have been working out in preparation for the 2008 season without Taylor, who is participating in ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.
Taylor thereafter decided to drop in on V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells. Writes Salguero: “Taylor walked into a room where Parcells was watching tape, and Parcells ignored him. He looked at Taylor and went back to his work without saying a word.”
Ouch.
Taylor was reportedly “incensed” by the gesture. But probably not nearly as incensed as Parcells was when he learned that Taylor was trying to revise Parcells’ signature “This is why you lift all those weights” line into something more like, “This is why you do all those splits.”
Without question, Parcells hates the fact that Taylor isn’t working out with the team. The fact that Taylor’s distraction is a freaking dancing contest surely makes it even worse for the old-school Parcells.
To date, this saga has been publicly tame. It soon will be getting ugly, we think.

For once i would like PFT to take the side of the Player. Jason Taylor through out his career has not only been a all pro DE but he has been nothing but class. He been the NFL man of Year. For such he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Dancing with the Stars is not nearly the same distraction of TO not wanting to practice during training camp because of a Hamstring. Jason Taylor will be there when the season starts as both a team leader a team example and an all pro who give 110%

It is freaking called respect. None of you would appreciate it. And yes, a new boss has everything to do with his future. So a little freaking courtesy of a hello might make taylor want to stay in Miami. Parcells is not perfect. He is a POS that thinks he is God’s gift to us humans. He is one more donut from a heart attack, I figured it would happen while he was on the sidelines with the boys, but now he’s Miami’s problem. Have that crash cart ready Huizienga.

Parcells is a child and total egomaniac. He surrounds himself with yes men. The media gives him a pass on everything. He’s one of the most overrated coaches ever. He’s like the evil coach from The Waterboy who had Bill Belichick doing his homework for him for years and took all the credit.
The absolute easiest thing to do is to turn a terrible team into a playoff team. All it takes is one good offseason. You saw Marvin Lewis do the same thing in Cinci. But as Lewis found out, the hard part is taking that next step. Taking a playoff caliber team and making them a Super Bowl caliber team.
Parcells does the easy part, then skips town before the hard work really starts. In that regard, self-promotion, he really is a genius. He gets his loyal media shills to sing his praises for a “miraculous” turnaround then he bolts, the team levels off and the media proclaims the team would have won a Super Bowl if Parcells had stayed.
And for those of you keeping score at home. Dancing in your free time is bad (Jason Taylor). Going on a coke bender is fine and dandy (Lawrence Taylor). Yeah, that Parcells is a real disciplinarian….

I like BP as an amusing/entertaining figure but he is a control freak and JT won’t be controlled. Heck he’s probably in better shape from doing DWTS than he would be from OTAs.
That said, as a Pats fan I will be thrilled if BP is so pissy with JT that he trades him out of the AFC East since JT is pretty much solely responsible for Brady’s struggles vs the Fins. (I know better than to hope for a trade to the Pats). JT has given his all to that team for countless years no matter how bad they were, who the coach was , what the scheme was, whatever. That alone is so rare these days. Heck, my own team has a certain WR who quit on his old team when things got rough. Yes I am aware JT is well compensated, but he has never mouthed off about anything publicly and is a standup guy on and off the field as well as being an amazing player I have coveted for my team for years. I think Parcells is totally wrong for not speaking to him. He should be trying to win over valuable veterans not alienate them. He will need them to help turn the team around. For heaven’s sake even SABAN who has the bedside manner of Hitler consulted with his vets before he brought Ricky Williams back.

Coaches use psychology to motivate players. He’s the new swinging d*ck in town and he is trying to set the tone. It’s nothing new for him. He turns his #1 draft picks into water boys to keep them humble. He is trying to undo the gaffes of Cam Cameron, Nick Saban, Dave Wannstedt and clownshoes owner, Wayne Huizenga in a single offseason. And his best returning player chose THIS year to shake his ass for reality tv. He didn’t like it and he said so from the onset. Taylor deserves better, in that, he should have been granted the right to seek a trade on his own terms. Parcells so grossly overestimated Taylor’s trade value, that he’s kicking himself. So when Taylor walked into the room, he didn’t even want to look at him. JT shouldn’t be shocked. The Tuna’s used his reputation as an a-hole to land his last three jobs. But again, he deserves better for all he’s endured as a Dolphin.

Bill has always played that role when it comes to players that act up. Look at the T.O. crap. If it does anything it will motivate him to get into camp. JT also promised the team he will be there… and now he’s not?!

I just think it is funny how everyone from Parcell’s old teams hate him so much. Where were the Cowboys prior to BP? And where are they now?? How about the Giants, Patriots, and Jets. ALL became winning teams under Bill Parcell’s. Who cares that he’s an ass?? More power to him. At least, unlike Saban, he’s an ass who can actually build a team and win.

Taylor works for Parcells, you dont have to be a fan of either to see the fact that the inmates wont be running the prison there any longer. You dont have to be a fan of Parcells to at least appreciate the fact he is doing his job in trying to get the team ready to improve on the one win season they had last year. Taylor is done with football, he just wont admit it becasue he wants to make sure everyone looks at him as a victim of Parcells’ agenda…Taylor is nothing more than an over paid crybaby.

You know what??? None of us know EXACTLY what’s going on behind the scenes between Parcells and Taylor. One thing I DO know is that Taylor had a pretty good idea when the DWTS show was going to wrap up in the event he were in the finals. He also probably had an idea when training camp for the Fins started. He chose to do the show knowing they could overlap. Obviously, if Cameron had stayed with his staff this wouldn’t have been a big deal. Taylor could have just said he needed a break from the game after such a terrible season in which 4 players on the team gave at least half an effort. But with all these changes, the perception of him is that he is not interested. The only good that came from Taylor being on the show is that more people in my office (mostly women) know who he is and are becoming Dolphins fans. This will last about 2 weeks after the show ends and people figure out that the Dolphins are still a mediocre team.

The thing I learned about Parcells from his tenure with the Cowboys is his inflexibility. You’ll either win with his conservative “system” or you won’t win at all. He’s either incapable or unwilling to game plan to player’s strengths. Yeah you’ll win, but you won’t win much. His biggest strength is player evaluation, but even that is limited. He couldn’t draft a good offensive lineman to save his ass in Dallas and he spent 7 draft picks on them, including 3 2nd rounders.

“Get used to it Dolphin fans. This was the reason why Parcells and TO didn’t work out in Dallas. Parcells acts immature when it comes to high profile players and it’s now showing with Taylor.” Are you INSANE? or just disallusioned by your beloved cowboys? Parcels and TO didn’t work out because of TO NOT because of Parcells. I’ll admit, I’m not a huge Parcells fan, but he was fine with many high profile players in the past. If it wasn’t for Tony Romo, T.O. would be a distraction on that team. Cowboys fans NEED to accept that.

Parcells is past his prime as a Coach and is now a VP.
He has made a living on past success for a nice stretch
here but really hasn’t been succesful is many years.
He is the Bobby Knight of the NFL. A total A-hole who
mistreats everyone around him to make himself look better.
Unfortunatley this worked for him early in his career and
his approach has been validated by past early success.
I hope they trade Jason Taylor…he deserves better than
having a blowhard question his skills and production for
many years on a bad team. Jason Taylor is a Dolphin.
Parcells is a hatchet-man and veture capitalist rolled
into one big ego!
I used to think highly of Parcells but not anymore…Retire
already, your becoming an embarrassement!

Yeah Parcells has dealt with high profile players before and he’s notoriously treated them differently than the rest of the guys. That works for some guys, doesn’t work for others obviously. Some guys prefer to just be treated like men from the start, rather than having to earn that right from some “old school” guy like Parcells.

You can tell that Vox is one of the Gen Y’ers roaming the country now. Bottom line is that Parcell’s is the BOSS and you do what the BOSS tells you to do or you go somewhere else. Cameron was a “players coach” and what did that get us? It is getting very tiresome listening to people think star players deserve special treatment because of their “star” status. You should prove yourself every day. JT doesn’t think he should have to do that, so maybe he needs to go to a team where that is tolerated. We have had no success with the alternative to Parcells. If we go 8-8 this year and make the playoff’s next year you’ll all love the guy.

good for parcells. here is a well respected man who is trying to rebuild a TERRIBLE team and organization. how is he supposed to do that with HIS BEST PLAYER OF AT A “FREAKIN DANCING COMPETITION”?!?!? i dont know why taylor isnt catching more heat for this, he is supposed to be a professional football player, not a freakin dancer. people use to cry all day long about brett favre waivering on his decision to retire or not, obviously taylor is trying to get a head start on where his money will come from after football. if you want to be on a stupid dancing tv show, that is a total joke, thats fine, but make sure it does not keep you from fulfilling your OBLIGATION to the organization that is paying you millions of dollars. seriously, this show is stupid.
