Two days after the Oakland Raiders added Darren McFadden to a crowded house at tailback, the Raiders have thinned the ranks by dumping Dominic Rhodes, according to John Clayton of ESPN.
Rhodes was signed as a free agent in 2007, not long after a DUI arrest that involved Rhodes allegedly whizzing in his own pants in the back seat of the squad car.
Other tailbacks on the roster include Justin Fargas, LaMont Jordan, Michael Bush, and Adimchinobi (gesundheit) Echemandu (gesundheit).
There were rumors that the Raiders were trying to trade Jordan and Rhodes during the 2007 season, and that owner Al Davis didn’t want to cut either of them due to concerns that they’d land in Denver.
Rhodes won a Super Bowl title with the Colts in February 2007, and arguably deserved serious consideration for the MVP award. With Kenton Keith recently arrested, it’ll be interesting to see if the Colts show interest in bringing Rhodes back.

Yeah, thanks NFLN talking head Lombardi (ex-raider exec) for suggesting the Saints try to trade for Jordan too. Lol, maybe if you understood our team and depth chart a little better you wouldn’t be such an ignorant conclusion jumper. Maybe thats why you’re an “ex-exec” these days. In other words, “we got this” and we don’t need your input.

You would think they would of let Lamont go first due to injuries?

Respectful move on behalf of Rhodes. Glad they didn’t let him stick around and rot on the bench, was the fair way to treat him. Jordan is next to hit the curb.
McFadden, Fargas and Bush. Nice young trifecta. Things are looking up in Raiderland.

Rhodes killed it in the last few games, I think he put up 100+ yards each game. This is precisely why the Raiders should have drafted Glenn Dorsey when he was available. arghargh sometimes it hurts so much being a Raiders fan.

Would have been nice to get something, but at least he is out of the way.
Does anyone know how much it saves us (or costs us) cap-wise?

alamedaman makes a great point. McFadden is the sexy pick, but Dorsey was the better prospect according to most draft boards. At least Dorsey didn’t get drafted within the division. Oh wait a minute… he did.
