"Tom Brady is going to be having nightmares about this guy pretty soon."

You so funny...Gholston is inconstant in his playing and needs a nudge to get going. Let's see how he does in a 3-4 when he actually plays in a 4-3. Again, shoving a round peg into a square hole. Didn't work last year, and won't work this year.

Interesting footnote to the draft relevant to this issue: The Jets were one of four 4-12 teams. Because the Jets had a SLIGHTLY stronger strenght of schedule (.007 more) they were considered a "better" team and thus picked #6, instead of #3.

Why was their strenght of schedule higher? Well playing a certain 16-0 team twice a year will do that to you. Even if that rival had lost one regular season game, that might have made the .007 difference to give them #3 instead of #6.

Kindof poetic when one considers that MangIdiot himself fueled the fire that inspired the Patriots to have the first perfect regular season in the history of the modern NFL.

there is a reason why Gholston did not beat out Jay Richardson at OSU. Richardson fell to the 5th round. what does that tell you. If games were played at the combine the V Gholston would be a pro bowler, unfortunately for the Jets they are played on the field where Gholston was inconsistent at OSU

The Jets are gambling a lot with their outside pass rush. They better hope that Gholston isn't just a bull-rush pass rusher who takes plays off and Calvin Pace isn't like Bryan Thomas who had a great contract year after being a disapointment most of his career only to go back to being a disapointment after he got his contract. If this happens, the Jets could be in some serious trouble since they will have about $40 million in guaranteed money tied into those two.

LOL @ all the Jets haters... Gholston was the concensus top player there.. If they passed on VG this place would have been lit up with 100 comments about how dumb they were... And Frankly, I'm glad they didn't get Mcfadden...

Last year the Jets hit an absolute Home Run in the draft... I give them the benefit of the doubt, this crew has drafted well.. This isn't Herm and Co anymore...

Probably a bunch of whiny Pats fans all excited in here. Funny stuff.

At least they didn't draft Mike Mamula and Freddie Mitchell...

Seriously though, maybe they just figured this way they can beat Long for the next 5 years, and then get 14 other games of average production.

Is it a surprise that the Jets wanted guys who were picked before they had a selection? Isn't that just about everyone after the first few selections? There were about 4,756 rumors of trades and moves that teams wanted to make for guys that didn't come through and each one assumes a team didn't get their first choice. Another incredibly revealing statement of the obvious.

Why was Gholston the 3rd choice, Sedrick Ellis would have have been a perfectly reasonable pick and they need a big dominant Nose-tackle in the 3-4.

Surely you jest, Gonzo. The Jets, especially lazy Gholston, couldn't carry Tom's jock. Gholston will be a bust, ala Dewayne Robertson.

In Tangini we trust. We all know about the comedy that is the Jets' draft history. However, Revis and Harris looked like pretty good football players last year. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on Gholston.

Any time that the Jets are forced to resort to their second, third, or fourth option, they are better off. If they got their first choice, they'd only screw it up.

I love the Jets taking 2 workout warriors in the first round. What a joke. Although both are ridiculous athletes, there are a lot of questions about these guys projecting to their respective positions in the pro game. I'd take either of KC's first rounders over Gholston any day.

At least they were able to move up and trade for that tight end that they didn't need.

The Jets continue to make the draft and enjoyable experience for those in attendance (and of course those who are not Jets fans).

Jets play a 3-4, Gholston is going to play standing up like DeMarcus Ware in Dallas. Gholston has the perfect speed and size to play OLB in a 3-4. Tom Brady is going to be having nightmares of this guy pretty soon.

Jets play a 3-4, Gholston is going to play standing up like DeMarcus Ware in Dallas. Gholston has the perfect speed and size to play OLB in a 3-4. Tom Brady is going to be having nightmares of this guy pretty soon.

Gholston 6-4 258
Ware 6-4 252

I wonder how much of this pick was a reaction to the thought that the Pats were trying to get Gholston.

Anybody catch what Gholston said to deion sanders after he was drafted? He said something to the effect of "Im looking forward to helping us get to the superbowl, not this year, but next year." I couldn't beleive he said that, and actually said out loud, why not this year? Of course who does think the Jets could get to the superbowl?

Tweeners aren't always bad, see: Adalius Thomas.

However, taking him with the #6 pick, I think, is risking to much.

I think Gholston is going to work out just fine for the Jets. He's a good pick for the system that Mangini runs.

Why make something like this public? Preemptive damage control in case Gholston is a bust?

There's no better way of inviting a new player to you organization than letting him know he was your third choice.

very few if any "tweeners" like Gholston, are ever successful in the NFL. Jets fans rejoiced when the pick was made, but it could be one that they hate for the next 5 years. I wonder if they looked at trading down?
