The New York Jets selected linebacker/defensive end Vernon Gholston with the sixth pick in the 2008 draft.
As it turns out, however, Gholston was the Jets’ Plan C.
The Jets initially wanted to jump up to No. 2 to get defensive end Chris Long, according to Gary Myers of the New York Daily News. But when a deal couldn’t be struck, the Jets opted to focus on running back Darren McFadden.
And when the Raiders picked McFadden, then Gholston became the focus.
The effort to move to No. 2 went nowhere because the price that the Rams put on the transaction was “exorbitant.”

Interesting footnote to the draft relevant to this issue: The Jets were one of four 4-12 teams. Because the Jets had a SLIGHTLY stronger strenght of schedule (.007 more) they were considered a “better” team and thus picked #6, instead of #3.
Why was their strenght of schedule higher? Well playing a certain 16-0 team twice a year will do that to you. Even if that rival had lost one regular season game, that might have made the .007 difference to give them #3 instead of #6.
Kindof poetic when one considers that MangIdiot himself fueled the fire that inspired the Patriots to have the first perfect regular season in the history of the modern NFL.

“Tom Brady is going to be having nightmares about this guy pretty soon.”
You so funny…Gholston is inconstant in his playing and needs a nudge to get going. Let’s see how he does in a 3-4 when he actually plays in a 4-3. Again, shoving a round peg into a square hole. Didn’t work last year, and won’t work this year.
