The completion of the NFL draft typically represents the end of the year from the perspective of the various front offices.  Though some G.M.’s are hired and fired after the season, the more conventional approach is for the folks who hold those positions to come and/or to go after the event for which they’ve spent nine months or longer preparing has concluded.

The same is true for scouts and directors of scouting/personnel.  Usually, they stay with their team until after the draft.

In Atlanta, G.M. Thomas Dimitroff is looking to add some scouts to a front office that he was hired to run after football season.  According to Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe reports that Dimitroff is interviewing Ravens scouts Lionel Vital and Vincent Newsome for an “upper-level position” with the Falcons.  Vital previously worked for the Patriots.

Per NFL rules, a front-offices employee can be blocked from taking a job with another team, if the job doesn’t involve ”final say” over player personnel.  But the team can choose to waive the ability to prevent a non-final say move.

Also, if the employee’s contract has expired, the employee is essentially a free agent.
