On Saturday, Tarvaris Jackson likely exhaled when the Vikings passed on quarterbacks Brian Brohm and Chad Henne at the bottom of round two.
He can start holding his breath again.
In the fifth round of the draft, the Vikings have selected USC quarterback John David Booty.
Though it might not be an open competition in Booty’s rookie year, Jackson had enough nagging injuries in 2007 to suggest that Booty will get to play at some point in 2008. And that could set the stage for a competition from 2009.

If Brohm has a history of being aloof, you can bet your arse it will be addressed at the professional level. As a Packer fan all I can say is that I am very pleased that they passed on Brohm and picked Booty instead.

I was very upset when the Vikes past on Henne and Brohm in the second. But, Booty in the 5th was a better pick than either of those 2 were in the 2nd. Plus, they got a safety to learn under DSharp!! I like the moves, wish they went O-line more, but all in all good draft. Now, just need to see what happens when they hit the field!

Most of the T-Jack haters seem to be Favre lovers. Tell me which one of the aforementioned QBs had these stats in his first full season as a starter:

Amazing. . .the Vikings came into this weekend with two quarterbacks that were better than anything Green Bay had to offer. Then they added a third one.

Wha?! Razon, did you even see an USC game? Or do you just read a 2 sentence scouting report on Booty? Have you even taken into consideration that USC hasn’t had a deep threat at WR in Booty’s career there? Why would his deep ball even going to count when USC doesn’t even have their QB’s throw deep?
BTW, the West Coast offense is going to be the same way for him.
Booty IS a solid pick, because he was drafted in the 5th freakin’ round! He’s more ready to jump in and start than Jackson was last year.
Also, yes, QB wasn’t the only weakness the Vikings had coming into the draft.. But they covered just about all of them. Let’s see.. They had needs at QB, WR, S, and DE. Booty, check. Berrian and Johnson, check. Tyrell Johnson, check. Jared Allen, double-check.
