Though he might be a mental midget, Mario Manningham is a football giant.
A New York Giant, to be precise.
With the final non-compesatory pick of the third round, the Giants selected Manningham, the Michigan receiver whose draft stock was devastated by a poor Combine performance, not being candid about his marijuana use during pre-draft interviews, a horrendous interview with Adam Schein and Tim Hasselbeck on Sirius NFL Radio, and a six on the Wonderlic test.
His athletic abilities are undeniable. And the Giants need someone who’ll take pressure off Plaxico Burress. But they might have also gotten themselves a guy who’ll end up being a real problem down the road.

Guess the Giants don’t care about drafting character guys anymore? I read some stories about him not supporting the backup when Henne went down….Sounds like a certain TE from Miami to you? Bad pick IMHO and I’m a damn Giants fan!

“real problem down the road” Doubt it, he wont crack the starting lineup over Plaxico, Toomer and Steve Smith. Hes here for depth and can get cut with no problem if he doesnt grow up. Ahmad Bradshaw had similar issues last yr and turned out ok…

Just curious but I’m trying to figure out why the giants have used higher draft picks on wide outs three years in a row with Manningham this year, Steve Smith last year, and Chad Jackson the year before that.

It’s worth the risk. I saw Manningham live when he played da Illini. And I watch him ’cause he’s Big Ten. He’s goooooooooood.

The Giants have shown NO reluctance to let draft picks that don’t work out walk. That, I believe, is the key here. Wheatly - gone, Dayne - gone, Joseph - gone, Shockley - well, they tried. Jerry Reece and Coughlin have the comfort of that big, f’ing ring to let Mario know where he stands. If he’s a full blown turd, they can always trade him to the Cowboys.

He could wind up being a steal. Or another Ron Dixon. I hope there are enough locker room leaders to keep him out of trouble and let his natural talent develop.

Chad Jackson? Uhhh….no, you’re thinking (how?) of Sinorice Moss the year before. Buf why are they spending 2nd and 3rd round picks on WRs…hmm. Maybe because they want to give Eli more weapons, and more depth.
It’s a 3rd round pick on a late 1st round talent. Sounds like a steal to me. Plus, how cool will it sound to hear “Manning to Manningham…touchdown!!”

The guy wasn’t even close to being rated as a high end WR…..and he’s dumb to boot?! Sounds like he belongs in New York to me. Just kidding fellow slackers….not really.

damn… you people are harsh. this dude is a kid. none of you people know what it’s like to play big time college football let alone what it’s like to be the man at a big time school. the NFL should mature this kid real fast and if not he’ll be gone but i like the pick… low risk high reward possibility
