Last year, the Raiders traded away the guy who was once the 21st overall pick in the draft for a fourth-round selection.
This year, the Raiders traded away the guy who was once the 23rd overall pick in the draft. For a fourth-round selection.
In 2007, it was Randy Moss, who was sent to the Patriots. (That trade worked out fairly well for New England.) In 2008, the Ravens would be happy with a fraction of the impact from cornerback Fabian Washington.
Washington was a first-rounder in 2005. He became less relevant to the Raiders after the arrival of DeAngelo Hall in a trade with the Falcons and the presence of 2003 first-rounder Nnamdi Asomugha, who has been slapped with the exclusive franchise tag.
In Baltimore, Washington joins an aging corps of corners led by Samari Rolle and Chris McAlister.
Washington is under contract through 2009, at salaries of $750,000 this year and $1.515 million next season.

The Raiders still get a lot of heat for that Moss-to-the-Pats. ie (That trade worked out fairly well for New England.)
What did the Raiders get, a 4th? It was common knowledge Moss was open for trade. How about a little heat on the other 30 GMs who didn’t think Moss was worth a 3rd?

I think Al Davis has got “old timers disease.” Trading 1st round draft picks for 4th rounders? Football has passed Al Davis by. He needs to get his nose out of the daily operations of football, sit up in the owners booth and watch the game period. Good luck to Fabian.

people saying Al Davis is too old, how original.
Anyway, with the DeAngelo Hall signing, Fabian would have been a nickel at best. Also, do his turd stats go to Baltimore now?

Red Zone hit it out of the park. While Washington at least allowed Ozzie Newsome to get a cornerback — something the Ravens desperately needed — Washington comes with both off the field issues (i.e. domestic violence issues) AND on the field issues (i.e. he seems to get beaten like a rented mule against tall, fast wide receivers). So I don’t know if it’s time to break out the champagne quite yet. Let’s see how Washington does at nickel back first, and take it one step at a time.
