As usual, the Washington Redskins have a first-round draft pick that they’d prefer not to use. The Miami Dolphins, in turn, have a key veteran defender whom they’d prefer to trade for a first-round draft pick.
And it’s well known that Taylor’s agent, Gary Wichard, is tight with Vinny Cerrato of the Redskins, who has gained more and more influence in the organization.
So it’s a natural fit, right?
Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post reports that the ‘Skins aren’t interested in the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. They simply don’t see him as a “good long-term fit,” says La Canfora.
Wow. The fact that the Redskins are now even looking beyond the current season should be very encouraging for their fans. The team clearly has a need along the defensive line, and NFL teams are now looking to beef up the front four after the Giants parlayed their quartet of quarterback killers into a Super Bowl trophy.
But the irony here is that, while the Redskins don’t see a 33-year-old defensive lineman who still can bring it and who has never been a problem for the Dolphins as a “good long-term fit,” the Redskins are willing to surrender up to two first-round picks and more than $20 million in guaranteed money for a 30-year-old receiver who acts like he’s five.

Taylor has MAYBE two years left. He is nothing more than a pass rushing specialist.

As much as I like Jason Taylor, I’m happy the Redskins didn’t do this. They have a General Manager, why don’t they trust his draft board? Just pick the dang best player available and get on with it.
As far as Chad Johnson, if we trade for that non-West Coast WR then I’m officially giving up and becoming a Bills fan. They’ve got no money and can still draft players and ball.

this probably means they do want him, they’re just playing games in order to drive the price down to a second day pick.
regarding chad johnson, they’re probably playing games with that too. they’re floating some b.s. that they’ll give 2 first rounders, with no truth to it, just to drive the pressure up for the bengals to trade.
so if you look at the oevrall picture, they are kinda up to their old ways. they want two veteran players in johnson and taylor and they’ll give up draft picks; just a little more reigned in than before and not all crazy.

Jason Taylor was the Defensive Player of the Year last year! The skins would be lucky to get him! I know the Pats would love to get Jason. Jason and Tom Brady are pretty tight! Would the Pats give up a third, probably.
We all know how adept the Skins are at the draft!

Taylor was DPY two years ago. Bob Sanders was last year. You can’t justify giving up a first rounder for someone who is 33 and relies on speed. Add another year to his age and he gets slower. He is only going to play 2, maybe 3 more years. Taylor may be traded, but it won’t be for anything more than a late 2nd rounder.

Taylor will be a steal for a team that is close and has a 3 year window. I compiled his stats next to Strahan/Osi/Freeney/Peppers/Kerney and even Jarod Allen and none of these other players have outplayed and out produced Jason Taylor over the last 4 years. The man is still an amazing DE on a horrible team and has produced uninjured for more years than any of the others. I’m not sure if a team will give up a first for him but being a Viking fan (pre-Allen trade) and If Harvey was gone before 17 I would have prefferred a trade for Taylor over drafting Merling or any other of the rookie unproven DE’s in this draft. Taylor is still a top DE!

No one in their right mind will trade a first round pick for a 33 yr old dlineman. As Skins fan i would be happy with him for a 2nd rounder, but i am also cool with us keeping the pick. We have actually done pretty well in the draft as of late
