Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that the Dallas Cowboys have traded linebacker Akin Ayodele and tight end Anthony Fasano to the Miami Dolphins.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Cowboys will receive a fourth-round pick in exchange for the two players.
Ayodele was signed as a free agent from the Jaguars in 2006. His role became uncertain after the Cowboys signed veteran Zach Thomas. But Ayodele vowed to keep his starting job. “I’m going into the season like it’s my position,” Ayodele said. “I am the starter and nothing has changed.”
Fasano was a second-round draft pick in 2006.

That’s it Tuna. Keep grabbing those players. The Fins will be back sooner than people think they will. I say they finish 2nd in the AFC East this year at 7-9.

Why would the Cowboys do this trade? Give up a starting LB and a TE that was selected in the 2nd only 2 years ago, for a 4th round pick? Seems odd to me.

you probably also think Batman is real. the first 4th rounder in the draft seems high for a couple backups.

You’ve gotta be kidding me! This is a steal for the Fins, but it definitely let’s us know what Dallas is thinking: get ammo to trade up, expect them to trade up tomorrow!

When is the Tuna going to get the QB? Who are the teams that the Fins are going to beat for their 7 wins! Me thinks you are drinking the Tuna koolaid.

Good trade for the Cowboys. The Dolphins’ 4th rounder was at the top of the round, almost a third round pick.

Curtis is a little bigger, little faster and a little better blocker than Fasano. Fasano probably has the better hands, then again Curtis scored 3 TDs on 3 catches last season. Witten is pretty much indestructible (knock wood) so having a second round pick on the bench is just a waste. Fasano deserves a shot to start somewhere, Cowboys could stand to lose his salary, and the writing was on the wall for Akin when they signed Zach Thomas. I’ve always liked Ayodele, but he’s just a guy and his base salary is $2.5 million for ‘08. He was gonna get cut if the Cowboys couldn’t trade him. By the same token, the Phins just need warm need bodies at the point. Good trade for both sides, IMO.
The Cowboys now own 5 of the first 100 draft picks. Trade up?

here’s the deal:
Zach Thomas is one gang-tackle away from an assisted living facility. The man played mlb at the top of his game for 9 years and too a beating. Its over.
For the fins to get a guy 29 years old with a chip on his shoulder, that’s good. Plus we get a TE who will probably start. Don’t forget our starter last year was Justin Peele. Huge HUGE HUGE upgrade. I am starting to take out my fleece, but I’ll wait to see them both pass their physical.
But I think its a great move for the dolphins.
FINTASTIC!!!

Initially, I hated the trade, but now that I think of it, I love it. They traded two backup players on their roster for a 4th round pick. Akin Ayodele was not happy with the Zach Thomas signing and was likely to be cut anyway, while Anthony Fasano was buried behind Jason Witten and did not play special teams. While this pick will likely go toward replacing one of these traded players, I think it will be helpful for them since they can probably contribute to special teams. I just hope that Zach Thomas doesn’t get injured again, or else they’re going to have to resort to Kevin Burnett, and I’m not sure he can be a starter.
Dolphins got a good player with Fasano. He’s not fast, and his blocking skills aren’t the greatest, but he does have decent hands. He’ll be solid in Miami.

That’s ok, fin fan. Like I said, Ayodele was gonna get cut because of his salary and the Cowboys need to see what they can get out of Bobby Carpenter. I don’t know why you bring Thomas into this, he has nothing to do with the trade or the fact that Ayodele was the weak link in the Cowboys’ LB corps by virtue of salary combined with age and consistently “ho-hum” play on the field. If the Cowboys doctors say that Thomas can play so be it, let’s see, if he gets vegetablized then you plug the 18th overall pick of the 2006 draft in and see what’s he’s got, stop letting his youth get wasted on the bench behind a guy like Ayodele, who is just a guy but has leadership skills and a lot of experience. Theoretically, Ayodele’s leadership and experience is replaced by Thomas’s higher levels of both qualities, and if Carpenter can’t at least be as good as Ayodele on the field I’m gonna be really hacked off about it, and Bill Parcells will have a wasted first round pick on his resume.
But yeah, good luck with Ayodele. He seems like a quiet, quality guy and I think that serves the Dolphins really well right now. He’ll mean more to you and Tuna in the locker room than on the field.

Under cover of seemingly implausible personnel moves, Bill Parcells is slowly but surely moving the entire Cowboys organization to South Florida. Tony Romo likes the beach.

Fasano was drafted to be Bill’s blocking TE, a role Dallas doesn’t use as much under Garrett’s offense. Also, Dallas didn’t want to pay Akin when they’re overloaded at LB.
It’s a good deal for both teams, but you do have to wonder if Dallas is looking to move up (ie: McFadden).

This is a good deal for both teams.
Miami gets two starters at positions that they need.
Dallas receives the first pick in the fourth round.
Ayodele, even if he made the Cowboys roster wasn’t gonna play that much. But for the Phins, he’s a big addition to the middle of their D.
Fasano was gonna be third on the depth chart for the Boys. But for the Phins (and alot of other NFL teams), he’s the starting TE, or at least number two.
Plus, Dallas free’s up cap room they so desperately need, and gives them a chance to make a move in the draft. Either a veteran receiver (doubtful but hopeful), or a chance to move up if the right player falls.
Go BigD

This is an incredible move by the Dolphins, both quality players and for a mere 4th round pick. I gotta say, I’m happy for the Dolphin fans the Tuna is bringing in a quality staff that’s able to make these types of moves, even though I’m a Patriots fan.

This move makes no sense for the Cowboys. Each of those players are worth at least that pick. Conspiracy?

Ayodele wasn’t a playmaker. If Zach Thomas cant play we still have Kevin Burnett who can step in or maybe Bobby Carpenter can step up and start earning his first round paycheck finally.
Fasano’s hands weren’t that good either. I wonder if Parcells wants Crayton also, then he’ll have two of our guys who drop passes in big spots.
Hell, Parcells can take Carpenter too. He passed on Antonio Cromartie and Demeco Ryans for him.

Ayodele was going to be traded or released so this is no surprise. He will save the Cowboys over 3 mil. He hasn’t done anything special over the past two years and is getting a little long in the tooth. This was not a loss whatsoever for the Cowboys. Former first round pick Bobby Carpenter will move into the starting lineup if Zach Thomas gets injured. Carpenter is bigger, faster and more athletic than Adoyele. Even at Zach’s age he is an upgrade over Adoyele. Fasano is more of a blocking TE with some passing catching abilities. He was a Parcells pick so this makes sense. He never had a chance behind one of the best Tigh Ends in the game in Jason Witten. This trade was pure genius by Jerry. The Cowboys save money on the cap and get the 4th round pick back they gave Tennessee for Pacman which is the first pick in the 4th round.

My initial impression is that I don’t like the trade from the ‘fins side. I’d rather take a chance on getting a star with the 100th pick. These guys are JAGs.

Great deal for the Fins. It seems that Dalas’ ego is a bit inflated right now.
As far as the QB of the future for the Fins? They will take a QB with the first pic of the second round. Henning or Brohm, both who seem to be hot “risers” as of late.
I’m a believer that three QB’s will be taken in spots 25-50. Flaco, Brohm and Henning. I see three teems looking to imediatly upgrade, and one looking to the future, or taking a BPA pick. Just because the QB class this year isnt that great doesnt mean teams wont bite early based on potential.

Wtf is Jerry Jones doing?? Trading two players in the prime of their careers, albeit as backups right now, for a single fourth? At least get two picks for two players who, on a lot of other teams would be starters, not backups.
