How interested are the New Orleans Saints in landing defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey? They’re reportedly including in the trade package starting left tackle Jamaal Brown.
According to Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com, the Saints are shopping Brown, a Pro Bowler in 2006.
Presumably, the Saints have offered Brown and the No. 10 overall pick to the Rams, for the No. 2 selection. If so, how do the Rams not take it? Brown is under contract through 2011, at a base salary of only $752,500 this year.
At No. 10, the Rams could then target someone like Florida defensive end Derrick Harvey. It would allow the Rams to address significant needs on each side of the line, and ensure them at least one proven player as a result of the transaction.

This would be foolish on the Saints part.

Trading Jamaal Brown should really help Reggie Bush have a break-out year… although a blown-out knee is more likely, having to dodge defenders in the backfield.

I agree, if this is the case, how can they not seriously take this offer!?! The Rams want to trade back - why not do it only eight places and get one of the top 15 tackles in the NFL?

i’m not quite sure why the saints would do this. I feel like Jammal Brown is one of their best players. They must be thinking he is on the downside of his career, or perhaps the injury last year during training camp was more than actually said?
Anyways, I don’t really like it. It would be a great deal for the Rams though.

This is getting ricidilus!
I am from Louisiana, and a big LSU fan. I know Dorsey is a beast but lets face it he has some knee issues. Yes he had a great workout, but can he handle 16+ games in the trenches in the NFL? Good chance he will and he is worth the #2 overall pick but not trading our pro bowl LT and our first round when there will be so many players #10 that can help us like maybe ellis, rivers or one of those corners?? To much in the draft to give that up to move 8 spots.
Let us not forget we drafted a guy in the First last year and didn’t step foot on the field. He also hd knee questions with a great workout.
Brown for #2overall= OK
Brown and our #1 for #2 overall= Terrible Move

Jamal Brown & The #10 pick in the first round???
That can’t be correct!!!
It makes no sense (to me at least) for the Saints to make that offer and even less sense for the Rams to have to spend more than 5 minutes to decide to accept that deal.

If that’s the offer, the Rams shouldn’t hesitate for a second. They would get two good players for a price millions upon millions less than paying the # 2 pick.

If we knew we needed a DT this bad why didnt we just sign/trade for Marcus Stroud or Shaun Rogers ? Surely we are in a win now mindset with drew brees in his prime and it would have cost us a ton less than dorsey.
Another bad decision by Micky Mouse Loomis

The Saints are getting retarded here. Trade a good young tackle and a 1st rounder for Dorsey? Dorsey is going to be one of the major busts of this draft you can already see it. DT has an extremely high % of 1st round busts, and any guy who lacks a bit of explosion and has reasons that his weight could baloon up usually turn out to be a bust. Dorsey is lazy compared to Ellis and has bad knees. Bust waiting to happen.

Agreed with the consensus, the Rams would be foolish to not jump on that offer immediately … BEFORE THE SAINTS COME TO THEIR SENSES!
Honestly, I can’t see the Saints ever making such an offer. Who will play Left Tackle for them? Brown is young and just now heading into the prime of his career.

I don’t believe this for a second. Try and remember the amount of disinformation that teams put out prior to the draft.

I’m going to stop being a Saints fan if this trade goes down. This makes no sense at all. I HOPE it just pre-draft propaganda that comes around, this time of year. Same as the Shockey trade talks. If we want a DT that bad…why not move up a couple of spots to get Ellis? There not much of a drop off in talent from Dorsey to Ellis. And giving up Brown is just ridiculous. Why let 2 people from an offensive line, that let up only 15 sacks a year ago, go? This just makes no sense to me. Maybe I’m the crazy one. This article has ruined my day. It makes me no longer excited for the draft. I will seriously think about stop being a Saints fan…maybe I’ll be a fan of a team that runs their front office a little more efficently…like maybe the Raiders. (Notice the sarcasm) But still, this seems just down right dumb. I don’t know. Ugh. Thanks for ruining my day, profootballtalk.com.

Dorsey is good yes, but I feel like he is somewhat overrated. I think he can be very, very good, but I also feel like there is a lot of hype around him that he won’t live up to. I agree with the majority here, trading Jamaal Brown would be foolish, how many bookend tackles are there in the NFL? Very few, which is why they always get paid handsomely, and why the Saints would be dumb to give him up, and a Top 10 pick in addition. Stay where you are and grab Ellis or Rivers (how long now have we been hearing about the Saints’ LB woes?), and keep a young, Pro Bowl-caliber tackle.

I think the best case scnerio for the black and gold would be to trade down with philly for lito shepard and get jerod mayo out of tenn with their 19th(i think). Starting corner and LB.

Dorsey is not lazy and is not a certainty to be a bust as some would have you believe. He got hurt last year with an illegal block by an Auburn lineman that would have taken most players out for the season. Dorsey did not miss a game his last two seasons and he was an integral part of a National Championship Team for LSU. He is also a high character guy who will very likely never get in trouble.
On the other hand, the Saints would be CRAZY (can we say Crazy Joe type of Crazy) to trade Pro Bowler Brown and the #10 overall selection for Dorsey. I believe Dorsey has A CHANCE to be a special DT in the NFL, but you don’t give up a Pro Bowl LT for a possibly special player.
If this offer has indeed been made, and is still on the table, the Rams would be foolish not to take it. I could even see the Tuna in Miami asking his contract guys to find out if he could take the offer and back out of taking Jake Long first overall.
One thing that has not been mentioned here is the possibility that Brown may be pissed off for some reason and may want a new deal. He has also had some off the field issues (beat up his girlfriend??) and the Saints may be trying to unload a guy with character issues. In my opinion, if a Pro Bowl LT is not in prison he starts on my team…….

Didn’t we learn our lesson in ‘03? Wasn’t ANYONE paying attention? We cannot morgage the team for 1 draft pick. This sounds like the move of a desperate team. Sounds like something a team thats in a “rebuilding” phase, should do. That’s not us! We aren’t rebuiding. We were a suprise in ‘06. In ‘07 preseason, we were the NFC team to beat. We were early favorite for the Super Bowl! What is going on?! We are a few WISE draft choices from being prennial contenders. By giving Brown away on a silver platter will be moving 2 steps back. I think that’ll help us secure a Top 5 pick in next years draft. We already waved goodbye to Faine. I don’t think it’s in Brees’ best interest to let 2 of our best linemen go away in 1 year. Come on people! Why give away something that works? Why not trade away something thats not working…like our defense? Our offense is the reason we made the playoffs 2 years ago. Our defense is the reason we lost the NFC championship. I understand we need to upgrade our defense…and I think we made some moves in the right direction this offseason, alot better than 2 offseasons ago. But giving away one of our few pro-bowlers would just be silly. That would make us a goose. We we can trade up a couple of spots for Ellis, I think we’d be much better off. I believe Ellis can prosper under Ed Orgeron, who recruited Ellis to play at USC. Clearly he saw something in him then. Who’s to say he can’t mold this young man into what we’ve been looking for for years, a serious every down, run stuffer. Ellis will in return make our defensive ends looks better and they can return to their Pro Bowl selves. Which will in turn make our linebackers better, including Vilma and Morgan. Which will trickle down to our secondary. They will stop getting burnt so much if we can defend the run and apply pressure to the QB. So we can stop getting burned for 313 by LUKE MCCOWN. That’s right…LUKE. You thought Josh McCown was bad…Luke is even worse. But somehow we let him have a field day on us. I dunno. I just REALLLLLLY hope that this is all trickery and pre-draft shenanigans.

His talent is undeniable, but there have been whispers since he was drafted that no trainer or doctor think his knees will allow him to have a long career. So, maybe the Saints think it’s time to cash in & pass the hot potato to someone else. They’ll look really smart or really stupid on this one - not a lot of in between.

I don’t know if I buy that Brown and the #10 pick are in play to move up to #2 - If it is true, the Rams should absolutely jump on the deal (unless, of course, they are trying to use this offer to get Atlanta to enhance their offer to move up only 1 slot). Jamaal Brown is actually the player the Rams wanted when they took Alex Barron, as the Saints took Brown just ahead of the Rams. Supposedly the Rams like Brown’s “mean streak” compared to Barron, who was thought to be a tremendous physical talent, but not a guy who really enjoyed playing football and didn’t work particularly hard - that assessment of Baron has turned out to be right on the mark. Baron is once again skipping voluntary workouts at Rams park despite a new o-coordinator and new o-line coach being added to the staff. The dude just doens’t give a rat’s a$$ about playing football.
I’m a Dorsey guy - I think that is who the Rams should take, however, if this deal is true, I do not see how the Rams could pass this one up.

I love Glenn Dorsey. I would love to see him on the Saints. He would do so much for the team and the city of New Orleans. The Saints need him. He may even take less money to stay in Louisiana. That being said, how can you give up a LT and the #10 pick??? I could see giving up Brown and a 2nd round pick and using the #10 to bag another LT, like Clady, Otah or Williams. I really hope the Saints move up and get Dorsey, I just hope they don’t give too much away.

Since Payton isn’t a moroon he’s likely got a plan. Maybe he sees a late round tackle that he likes. Maybe Brown is fat and out of shape. N.O. needs to even the defense out and they need D-T!

This is retarded. What are they thinking. Reggie already can’t run through holes, now you going to close them for an unproven DT. Do they realize that Rod Coleman is still available. Forgot shockey and Dorsey, trade for Lito Sheppard, sign Coleman and draft the best player available at 10. Or if they feel the need to trade for a TE go for Scaife, he was a reliable target for a very unreliable QB last year, imagine what he could do for a quality QB and he is not a cancer and would likely come cheaper since the Titans have already signed Crumpler.
