The ongoing Chad Johnson-Cincinnati Bengals saga continues.
The most recent development is a video plea from agent Drew Rosenhaus to the Bengals, in which he pleads with the team to trade Johnson. Here’s the video:
Clearly, the plan here is to stoke the fans and the media into continuing to pressure the Bengals to accept the reported offer of a first-round pick in 2008 and as much as another second-rounder in 2009 from the Redskins.
But the Bengals aren’t budging. During a spot with Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton of WFAN earlier this morning, Boomer offered up a great idea — the Bengals might be inclined to let Johnson go if he offers to pay back signing bonus money.
Even then, however, we’re not so sure that team president Mike Brown would bite. He’s out to make a point on this one, and it’s very possible that no amount of money or draft picks will change his mind.
So what say you, PFT Planet? Should the Bengals keep him, or should they trade him?

I wonder if Marvin will have an “endzone celebration” planned every time the team fines Chad for skipping a mandatory function.

I think it is a no brainer for the bengals. They have to trade him. They would have their own pick this year and the Redskins pick in the first round. To unload a player and recieve 2 possible first round picks, you have to make that trade!!

I don’t think I’d want an agent who lost the telephone number of the team I play for, and has to talk to them via YouTube.
Rosenhaus and Johnson both need to be taught a lesson - starting with a slap alongside the head to get their attention. I cringe everytime a Packer player hires Drew. He will single handedly kill the goose that laid the golden egg - as he rides off into the sunset with his millions over the ruined careers of the less than bright players who hired him.

Ah, love seeing Rosenhaus on TV again. Brings back fond memories of the summer of ‘05
I wonder if Chad can dunk?

Mike Brown vs Chad - battle of the super egos. Best case scenario for the Bengals is they stay tough and don’t trade Chad and Chad plays (for the money). Inevitably the Bengals will lose more games than they win and Chad will be an even bigger whiner. So why not trade the guy for a couple of picks to an NFC team and be done with it. If Mike Brown were confident in his drafting ability he would do it in a flash. A few years ago Ted Thompson traded Javon Walker (who hasn’t had a real productive season yet for a couple picks, which he traded into 5 picks: Daryn Colledge in Round 2, Will Blackmon (fourth round), Tyrone Culver (sixth), Ingle Martin (fifth) and defensive tackle Johnny Jolly (sixth). Colledge and Jolly both start for GB now, while Walker is no longer a Bronco.

Keep him. Time for someone to stand up to these cry babies that make millions of dollars. Unfortunately for them, by making a point for the long term sake of the team, Bengals will suffer in the short term.

Proving a point is one thing, but at what cost? I am all for making these crybabies honor the giant contracts they sign with $$ in their eyes, that being said, if teams are offering future draft picks that would help a franchise that has only had one decent season in a loooong time, then it’s pretty hard to defend the team’s position to refuse the trade. It’s obvious Chad Johnson isn’t happy and if he isn’t going to play for the Bengals this season (or ever again), then the Bengals might as well trade him to a team in the NFC and get some draft picks/players/money for him. I realize this doesn’t advance their position, but in the end if it makes them a better team, it is the best result. This doesn’t even take into account the damage he is doing in the locker room. It will be very difficult for Palmer and Housh to play with this jicky-jack again and for Lewis to coach him. Wow, I never thought I’d see the day where I would actually prefer TO to Johnson. But that day is here and I say cut Ocho A-hole loose.

Chad Johnson is a whiny little A-hole, even worse, he’s represented by the biggest A-Hole on the planet in Rosenhaus. Good for the Bengals for taking a stand. This whole thing started with T.O. a few years back and who represented him, The Douchebag! Make him and Chad suffer on this one!!

If Washington wants to play then they can come up with #17 overall + Santana Moss + some conditional pick next year.
And since when did the offer go from 17th overall in 2008 + up to a second round pick in 2009? Last it was reported it was up to a first round pick in 2009. If Washington isn’t going to add in a player the offer needs to increase to the 17th overall + 3rd round in 2008 + conditional pick in 2009 (up to a first round pick).
In any event, outside of the deal I proposed above Cincinnati isn’t going to make the move. It costs less to have Chad sit on the bench than it does to send him packing… and if he sits out a couple months it’ll clear up enough cap-space to extend TJ’s deal and put them in a better position to trade Chad next year.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha. So now Rosenhaus has slithered into the abyss of shameless unctuousness. This is making for great entertainment. He tried this act with Lewis, that obviously amounted to a great success, so now we have “reasonable Drew”. Hey Drew, looks like you threw a little too much of your manhood out there, and it’s slowly getting eviscerated. Can’t wait to see Act 3.

The Bengals are doing the right thing here. All too often these days, players b!tch publicly about private team issues and in the end get what they want. I applaud the Bengals and hope they don’t trade him. If he wanted to be traded he should’ve kept his mouth shut and gone about it the right way (insert irony here). He signed the contract, now I hope he rots somewhere off the field.

Drew Rosenhaus is a jerk. I hope Ocho Stinko rots while sitting in Cincy. Its agents like Rosenhaus who empower these diva players to act the way they do. They are a bunch of parasitic scumbags who say they are acting in the best interest of the player when the truth of the matter is that they are only looking for the next paycheck.

I think the Eagles should get him and he can play for a season where we get to the Super bowl finally but this time we lose to some team like the Patriots. Then McNabb can blow chunks before he throws ten interceptions and the Eagles will win the soup commercial. I mean its like football except soupier. Eventually Ocho Stinko can complain about the fact that he does not like soup and will eventually ask for a trade again. Hopefully the Eagles will trade for the entire Cowboys organization so we can just put them into the new minor league. I don’t know…it might be a great idea now but look at the long term repercussions of this trade. Because of these problems down the line I firmly believe that Johnson should start his own league where he wins every game. Then maybe his majesty will be happy with outcome.

This is almost as tedious as a certain Falcon QB or a certain Titan/Cowboy CB, make him repay some or most of his signing bonus and let him go.. (and hope nobody else ever signs him)
BTW, (pulling up soapbox) why is it that when a player wants to renegotiate their contract, they are a greedy bastard, but when the team wants them to restructure to make their lives easier, or because
he has not performed to their expectations, if he refuses, he is a greedy bastard??

I don’t think Stinko should get his way and be traded, but if they make him stay, I wonder how this how is this going to affect the other players and if they need this distraction to continue. Could be detrimental in that aspect, but what do I know.

Wouldn’t it be nice if all the owners would just release players like this and let them ride out their 15 or 20 million that’s in the bank? I mean, if they don’t get their new 20-30 million guaranteed contract how will they take care of their families?

The puppetmaster speaks… Rosenhaus gets paid when Chad signs his deal. He needs to keep his mouth shut as well. Mike Brown and the Bengals front office might see this plea, but I do not think it will help Johnson’s or any other Rosenhaus client’s cause with the Bengals. Chad sits if “he is a man of his word”

Hmm… How much money will he lose by sitting on the bench this year? How much of his income is incentive based, and how much will he be worth on the open market to another team after taking just 16 snaps (one a game) this year?
They should stick it to him. Not so much for the Bengals or their dozen fans, but for the NFL.
He’d be a great addition to any practice squad.

I think the Bengals should force Johnson to either pay back the signing as Boomer said, or retire. It’s a question of letting the inmates run the asylum and the Bengals will have to take a stand like the Bucs did against an obnoxious receiver (Keyshawn Johnson). Of course there’s a lot of difference in class of the Bucs organization and the Bengals. If I’m Carson Palmer, I’m looking to get out of there as soon as possible and let the organization return to the basement of the league.

This “I want out of my contract, so I’ll bitch, moan, and complain” cycle has to end. The inmates do not run asylum. One or two crapshoot draft picks isn’t going to suddenly cure all that is ailing the Bengals.
Drew Rosenhaus is the puppet master pulling the strings behind this whole fiasco. Drew wants paid. That will only happen if Chad gets a new contract. Chad has the emotional stability of a twelve year old, and Rosenwhore is taking advantage of him.
Chad needs to grow up, man up, apologize for his actions, and honor his word, He will be welcomed back with open arms. If he doesn’t, I pray the Bengals take a stand and bench him.

Personally I think the way todays players & agents are trying to change the team/player relationship will eventually damage the NFL as we know it. I think they should take a stand and make the player fullfill his contract. If he becomes a problem on the field & in the lockeroom, do a Keyshawn/TO and tell him to have a seat at home for the rest of the season.

Chad was never a problem until Rosenhaus became his agent. Chad signed his contract with Cincy before Rosenhaus. Which means he has not been paid! He does not care about Chad Johnson, he just wants to be paid.
I am a fan of the Bengals and loved to watch Chad play. I believe Mike Brown should stick it to the Agent and not Chad. I really believe Chad can still be happy without out Rosenhaus in his ear pulling the puppet strings.

Let the freaking crybaby sit out the year, trade him next year. The offer from Washington isn’t as great as it’s being made out to be…A 1st rd pick this year and a possible next year for a guy that has been to 5 straight ProBowls?? Jared “I’m drunk do you need a ride” Allen was good enough for what 3 picks? As for paying money back, there’s no need. The Bengals already saved $250K in a workout bonus he missed out on, and they will save his salary for this year which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.5 million.
Some team needs to stand up and say we run this team, not the players. I agree totaly with cmhdave, if the Bengals cave next year TJ tries this, then Rudi, etc.
Let the man of his word stick to his word and sit his ass out!
