The ongoing Chad Johnson-Cincinnati Bengals saga continues.
The most recent development is a video plea from agent Drew Rosenhaus to the Bengals, in which he pleads with the team to trade Johnson. Here’s the video:
Clearly, the plan here is to stoke the fans and the media into continuing to pressure the Bengals to accept the reported offer of a first-round pick in 2008 and as much as another second-rounder in 2009 from the Redskins.
But the Bengals aren’t budging. During a spot with Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton of WFAN earlier this morning, Boomer offered up a great idea — the Bengals might be inclined to let Johnson go if he offers to pay back signing bonus money.
Even then, however, we’re not so sure that team president Mike Brown would bite. He’s out to make a point on this one, and it’s very possible that no amount of money or draft picks will change his mind.
So what say you, PFT Planet? Should the Bengals keep him, or should they trade him?

If Chad wants to play then he should honor his contract and play for the Bengles.

The Bengals were created and fueled by the spite that Paul Brown had for Art Model, that same blood courses through Mike’s veins.
I am going to thoroughly enjoy this train wreck.

Keep him…this isn’t a case of Pacman Jones troublemaker, this is a case of “Ocho Cinco” just being a/an (insert your favorite swear word here) and trying to get his way yet again. Good for the Bengals proving a point that you can’t whine your way out…let him sit on the bench and skulk if he’s threatening to anyways.
Then again these are the Bengals we’re talking about, they may want to take the pick and then screw up with yet another first-rounder.

Keep him. What happens next year when TJ wants more money and starts complaining publically? Then Carson, then Rudi, then (insert player name here). Chad is a crybaby and a well paid one at that. He has no sympathy from the fans.

if cincy gets a 1 & a 3 in 2007 and a 2 in 2009 AND ocho stimpy signs a check buying out the back end of his deal (which pat kirwan proposed on sirius nfl radio on wednesday) then i’d trade him. its not like he’ll win anything with the redksins

As much as I think it would be a good thing for them to rid themselves of a cantankerous (thanks Tiki) locker room distraction as well as pick up an extra first rounder in the process I kinda dig Brown digging his heels in and not letting a prima donna get his way (for once).

I dunno - I think its a little too late in the Brown/Lewis era to be all of sudden taking these hard stands. On the surface, yeah, its good to see that they are going to hold the players to the contract they signed. But the Bengals have struggled over the last two years, and if Johnson paid the money back, Cincy would have another #1 and possibly a #2 to get players on the team who hopefully won’t be distractions. I understand trying to make a point; but everyone talks about the NFL as a business - doesn’t it make more sense to get rid of a guy who is causing problems, recoup some monies already paid, and get a couple of rookies who you can start this process of team loyalty with?
The downside being that it sets the precedent that players will control where they play and if they are loud enough with their demands, they will get exactly what they want.
Bit of a slippery slope.

Trade ‘em!
Get it over with, it’s going to happen eventually. Jason Campbell would love to throw to Johnson, Mix, Moss, & ARE.

Chad is such an idioit. As a die hard fan of the Gals, I want this moron off my team and I would love to get Washington’s 1st and 2nd for it. Maybe Dallas will give up both 1s. Chad is over 30, he gets ‘hurt’ like 30 times a game just to show off, his end zone antics aren’t any good anymore, and he disappears in games for long stretches. TJ was better last season. We could cut Rudi and John Thornton to clear some cap room, and use the extra picks to restock the roster. The problem is that there are no elite WR in this draft.

I am not sure I can take much more of this. A moron and a weasel acting as if they are victims. I am not a Mike Brown fan, but I believe he is doing the proper thing at this time. If Ocho Psyco is still around after June 1, then I will have major problems. As I posted earlier, it is time for the Commissioner to step in on these issues. This situation is only going to get worse for all teams. A contract is a contract, act like adults and fulfill them. Of course you have slime agents like Rosenwhore and slimier owners like Jones that love this. The saddest part of the situation is that Psycho was extremely popular in Cincy. He is the problem not the fans. Guess it is just a matter of time till he pulls a Bi Daddy and calls Cincy a racist town.

Anyone else notice that Rosenhaus kept saying two first round picks? I thought the offer was a first this year and a second the next. Does the second have the potential to become a first if Johnson performs?

I normally don’t care for Mike Brown but I think giving in to Chad would be a terrible mistake. No other player will respect the organization if they let Chad talk his way out of town. I believe most NFL players really hate these self center a**holes on their team and would love to see one of these guys have to actually quit and give back all their money because their thought they were more important then the team. Of course you have talked to any other team Drew.

If I was a Bengals fan, I would probably want them to trade him and take the picks to improve themselves. As a Vieks fan, i kind of like that they are digging in and trying to show they are the boss, not Ocho Stinko

Taking the pic is always a good option because of what you can get. I like the idea of making a stand however, 1. Will they continue the trend or is this just a stand against Chad. 2. Eventually as the season wears on he will find ways to become a bigger distraction ala T.O.
So move him on out. This ain’t your daddy’s NFL anymore PFT

Make him honour his contract. If only because as a ‘Skins fan, it will save us from Little Danny from making yet another massive blunder. More and more it seems obvious that Joe Gibbs’s decision to retire was based as much on the realisation that Snyder would never get it as it was on family issues.

Someone in the NFL has to step up and put an end to this crap and the Bengals are just the stubborn people to do it.
I would love to see them take a stand on this one and tell him to either play or retire. No middle ground here, s–t or get off the pot Chad!!!

Keep him and sit him. He gets no sympathy here. He is one of the highest compensated players over the past 5 years, who also signed multiple early contract extensions. I hope he has fun watching the NFL from his couch this fall…

On ESPN last night, Johnson said this was a battle he would win. He is angry that someone within the organization told him to “tone down” his actions and he will not do that. He doesn’t care about his team only himself. Any doubt of that was proven with that interview. If I were the Bengals I would be even more determined to make him sit.
Chad Johnson has motivated the rest of the team to be better without him.

The Bengals FO has a responsibility to the fans to field a contender. Proving a point does not accomplish this. They should get what they can and be done with this guy. What they are doing not does nothing but prolong this soap opera. Too bad Lewis didn’t take such a hard stance when criminals were taking over his team. If I was a Bengals fan, I would be protesting outside of there stadium to fire the GM and HC and if possible the owner who is enabling this entire fiasco.

I’m of the old school. If a player signed his contract, he should honor it.
Just shut up and play for the team you’re taking money from. Rosenass has Jerome McDougle for a client, negotiated him a big contract as a rookie first-rounder when he came out of Miami, and the guy has three sacks in five years. Did he give a dime back? No.
If players don’t give money back when they play like garbage, why should they be entitled to more when they outperform their contract?
Do everyone a favor Chad and either be a man and sit out the year, or honor the contract you signed. Either way, shut up already.

What a joke!! Rosenwhore…have you no shame? Sorry dumb question. Like you haven’t talked to the Redskins!? Right! Let Chad rot! He signed with the Bengals, so he will be with the Bengals. Stick to your guns Mikey boy Brown. It’s going to be great come the end of August to see Ocho Psycho crawling back to Cincinnati with his tail between his legs! So far so good Marvin, but when you does come back you better keep playing hardball or he will destroy the team.

I like the stance that they’re taking and not giving him up. But if they really wanted to they could tell their PR people to let the incident in which he attacked the coaching staff last go WILD publically and then trade him. Dump him off on the Redskins, go ahead. They don’t have the cap room to pay him until 2010 and they sure don’t have the talent to keep him quiet. If they want to deal him, cut him loose and send him to an equal or even worse situation.

just let the man go…he played well for your franchise, i dont understand why they are making an example out of him. honestly, when it comes to player contracts, teams have all the leverage, players can be cut whenever the teams chooses. its nice to see a player stand up for himself and fight his contract.
